Websites from carding marketplace Joker's Stash seized by Interpol and the FBI

Joker's Stash is known as the internet's largest marketplace for stolen credit and debit cards.
The marketplace is offering millions of stolen credit and debit cards to buyers via multiple websites with the extensions .bazar, .lib, .emc, and .coin.
The websites were managed by a blockchain company called Emercoin. Records for the domains are stored
inside a blockchain and therefore only the domain owner can access them with his cryptographic signature.

A recent post was found on a forum by a user named JokerStash about the takedown. The account is believed to be from the criminal group since it has posted information about the JokerStash before.

Blockchain DNS

All devices on the internet have an address; a so called IP address. You can contact the server by this number. Since these numbers are hard to remember Domain Name Servers (DNS) were invented. These centralized servers work as an address book on the internet and tie an IP to a domain name.
That makes it possible to acces CNN via CNN.COM and not via it's IP address 151.101.65.67.

Blockchain DNS on the other hand is a decentralized DNS. Blockchain domains like .bit, .bazar and .coin are not owned by a central authority but shared over a blockchain.
Blockchain DNS is used to counter censorship by authorities. The registrations are also encrypted so not easy to intercept by the authorities. This is why we often see it being used for malicious activities.
To use Blockchain DNS you have to install a specific extension in your browser.

This is an ongoing cat and mouse game. The blog post above shows there are already new ways to access marketplace. In the past 12 months JokerStash has posted over 35 million card records.
Shutting down a couple of sites isn't going to solve the problem. The authorities need to find out who's running these sites to effectively shut it down.
But then again, others will show up eventually...

I suppose this 8s the risk when it comes to freedom. Not everyone will use it for good and it's probably the reason why censorship was implemented in the first place. While I don't agree with the hard and fast rules of censorship, it seems necessary dfor users who have criminal intent.

If only we lived in a world of trust and decency. Where is the love?
