Gaming On Hive Blockchain
It was no question that games are going to show up on the blockchain, therefore we have a few on Hive already. When I say few, I mean just a handful and there's plenty of room for more.
I've been waiting for gaming to develop faster and it looks like I have to wait more, maybe a year or two in order to get some more games, definitely different from what we have now. We're going to get there as Hive is less than one year old and development is just at the beginning. This is kind of a must to be honest, if we want to onboard more users. Gaming and earning, this is a great combination that can attract many users.
Blockchain Based Casinos
Let's see what can a blockchain based casino can offer players.
Privacy can be preserved as bets and winning withdrawals can be made in cryptocurrency. This is very important for many players. No one likes others to know how much they lose of win if the amount is substantial. Playing under a username is comfortable.
Decentralized is another advantage that other, usual casinos don't have. Greenlighting, verifying and processing transactions is not in the hand of a single entity anymore.

Gambling On Hive
According to State of the Dapps, there's one single random games platform on Hive, called Hive Slot Games.
I'll be honest with you, I've never heard of it, but then again, I'm not a gamer or gambler, so it may very well flourish on Hive without me knowing it. But is it the case?
The author is HSG.com, the dapp was submitted on August 3rd, 2020 and last updated one month later. The platform can be reached and look functional. It has Hivesigner and Keychain login option with makes it more trustworthy. Unfortunately I can't tell you more about it as I haven't tried it out.
If you chose any other know platform, you can see how many dapps they have. Bitcoin casinos are again endless in number, you just have to run a search and get flooded with offers.
I still believe gaming alone can double the number of active users on Hive, not to mention the financial advantage it can bring. But for that to happen, we need new games, a diversified game offer asap.

Personally I like gambling. However, I'd like to see a good sports betting platform. I'm not the type for cards and slots. But, if I had a good sports betting platform like Tron's Wink, I'd throw a lot of $$ into it. WINK is the only reason I ever buy any TRX and I hatemyself for it. :P But, I've yet to find a better blockchain betting app.
I do agree though, I think gambling would entice quite a bit of people.

There was a sport betting app on Sportstalk once but better not talk about it. I believe in time we're going to get there as we have a lot of potential.

I'd still gamble for the thrill but not really looking at the games as a get rich quick scheme. I like the part where there is transparency in the transactions recorded on the blockchain. It keeps the paranoia away like you're being cheated by the system.
I think casino dapps are inevitable and I'll be more surprised if these don't prosper once we get more people onboard. This blockchain has monetary rewards as part of the main incentives so it's more weird to think gambling won't be a norm in the future.

I remember that dice game and the problem they caused back then but didn't want to mention it in the post as I didn't recall the details exactly.
I'm not a gambler but I know many would use such dapps. And as you say, casino dapps are inevitable.

If you were thinking about magicdice, that's the one. They just shutdown operations and took the money without notice and in a flash.
Same games are hosted by epicdice and kryptogames based on Hive and Steem. Still functional but low traffic.

Yeah it was partly because some really rolled hard for that game and had major losses. The only consolation to look forward to was earning dividends from tokens gained from playing but even that went poof as soon as magicdice bailed out without a word. It sucks though, they had good business running and was earning a lot.
