RESPONSE TO @acesontop 's Post: "Cheap Labor's Gone Cheaper and That's a Good Thing"

I've just read @acesontop 's post and instead of commenting I wrote this post in which I have one or two things to say.

DISCLAIMER: All this is just MY opinion, and have no intention in any way to harm or offend anyone, OK? ... LET's GO.

For start, I don't know where you live but, you have to live in a 3rd world country (or at least on a developing country) to see the world in a different manner.

Automation is great, I think is an achievement for the human race, but that also brings collateral.

Let me explain my self with an example that I came up with.

Let's say that by the next week, a factory with several production lines of iPhones (just to put it as an example) will replace the workers for robots. The business will have to let go hundreds of workers, leaving them unemployed and without an income that in most of the cases, serves to fed an entire family. The business will saves a ton of money from the workers, ok? The workers will no longer pay taxes for working (because, unemployment), the business also will pay less taxes and the government will have a low income and that Universal Basic Income you talk about will not be possible.

And who is the most affected? Quick answer: The worker. Because he/she will no longer have a stream of income. Now let's say this happen to all of the business and they work with a few people to maintain the robots, now the things goes worse. Many unemployed people will be on the streets begging for some coins and for the worst case scenario, will be turned into a burglars increasing criminal activities and so. And just for replacing humans for robots on all business. Of course, it's an exaggeration from my part but, as my way of thinking it is plausible.

I'm not demonizing Automation, that's not my point. Robotics it's a brilliant thing and shows the advancements in engineering and I think is an achievement for the human race, but also brings collateral damages like the ones that I mentioned.

Also, the labor on the robotics area will be on demand and that leads to more people studying robotics related careers, and in the future the offer will surpass the demand, making underpaying jobs on the robotics related areas.

Sorry for being too pessimist, but for some, what I've just told you, is the day to day reality, the fear of being let go and not able to bring food to the table is a fact for some. No every people have an engineering degree to stay on the job, in 3rd world countries, people struggle to finish the middle and high school.

Also, let's say, replacing humans for robots went fine, no collateral or any issues on that matter. You mentioned workers monetizing their passion, with the high increase in people becoming content creators, not every one will success in monetizing their content, leaving them with depression in not succeeding and with no money on their pockets, they will have to leave their mental illnesses unattended and God knows what they will be able to do.

But let's wrap thinks up.

My point is that, we have to see the two sides of the coin and we must not let bedazzle by every scientific/technological advancement we get, like cloning for example, a great scientific advancement but again, with the two sides of the coin.

If you made it all the way though this, my deep thanks, I hope not to bore you with this pessimistic post, some will say they are a bit realistic.

In deed it was fun to imagine all this and write it down.

I'm hope you all are well. Cheers.

I agree with you, things have always two sides. Technological advancements that replace human workers can leave those behind who were replaced, especially without easy access to alternative income streams and education. I think there are ways where all can benefit, but it needs to look at the full picture and not just optimizing one side.
