The neutral role of the blockchain in the war

The war is on. Ukraine is defending itself with extreme conviction and courage despite the numbers that the Russian army is clearly superior in terms of the number of soldiers deployed and military power in general.

Every war is dramatic, regardless of the sides and it is absurd to watch a war arise and evolve in contexts in which we never would have expected after the end of the Second World War. It is evident that it is essential for armies to have financial resources that allow them to continue to supply the military with weapons, ammunition, electronic equipment, food and much more. Funds also needed by the population which is the great victim of every battle.

Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are an incredible tool for obtaining unexpected resources from supporters around the world. At this dramatic moment, Ukraine has formally asked for help from all resource donors in Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT, considered the most immediate channels, possibly also allowing donors to remain anonymous.

The tweet appeared today on the official Twitter profile of Ukraine which also published the BTC and ETH addresses for the fundraising. In a few hours from the announcement, the fund raised about 1300 ETH (equal to about over 3.5 million dollars) and over 34 BTC (equal to about over 1 million dollars).

Once again cryptocurrencies prove to be a necessary and more immediate economic resource to come to the aid of those who at this moment are ready to sacrifice their lives for the freedom that has already required blood and human lives.

Following the suspensions imposed by NATO countries against Russia, the same countries fear the blockchain as an alternative exchange channel for Russian strategists, which is why we are trying to intervene in this sense and somehow intercept these transactions. although it is extremely complicated by the very nature of the blockchain.

The neutrality of the network guarantees anyone the concrete possibility of using it to their advantage. Hundreds of people already escaped from Ukraine to my country (Hungary). I see co-operation between the locals to help them with whatever they need. I cannot help them, because I am also someone, who would need (and sometimes indeed get) help (I live with multiple disabilities, nowadays under the local minimum wage).

I just/only pray for them. For everyone in/from Ukraine. I wish strength, good health and all the best to them.

Hopefully this war soon will be over.

We all hope it ends soon, before things escalate into something else that won't be good for everyone including Russia and the rest of the world.
