I Want A Piece Of That Land
Land or a plot is an NFT in meteverse or in blockchain games.
With the past blockchain games or metaverse projects, I've always wanted to get my hands on a piece of land. Usually, land sales are happening at the beginning of the project and I've been too late and all is gone or the prices have climbed way above my budget.
So why I'm interested in the land plots?
Owning a piece of land can give players huge advantages such as some sort of taxation rights. While doing stuff on your property, other players will have to pay you a certain percentage of the loot they have gathered. This can turn out to be a great source of passive income for land owners. Alien Worlds is a good example of this kind of activity where players mine on different planets while other players own the land on these planets.
One of the most anticipated land reveals is perhaps the upcoming Splinterlands land expansion. What is really exciting is that the land owners will find out the attributes and the rarity of their plot. I was lucky enough to get one plot from a Discord raffle some time ago so the chances of getting that castle are slim but one can always hope! The price of single a plot is $157 (or 320 HIVE) which is actually pretty cheap compared to other alternatives.
OLand On Overline Network
OLand is really an interesting metaverse idea. If I understood the concept correctly, the land owners will get crypto based on the wireless traffic going through their piece of land. The plot will be located somewhere around the real world map and the amount of crypto you will be getting depends on the location of your land which is revealed after 67 days. So with my luck, my land will probably be located somewhere in the Sahara desert while the lucky ones find theirs on Wall Street. My guess is that the system is using the same tech and method as the Helium miners which depend on the router traffic.
What is usually a big downer is that on metaverse projects land plots can be really expensive. For example, The Sandbox plot is $3,000 and on Decentraland plot costs $7,000. Owning a piece of OLand however, is free at the moment - everyone can claim a plot by just signing in. More plots can be claimed through a referral system and that's pretty much all you can do on the platform right now, other than wait for a couple of months to see how it unfolds. After that, the plots will have a price.
Final Thoughts
I'm constantly on the lookout for these land projects but usually, I'll be folding when I see the hefty prices. Since the projects are new and unknown, the risk level is just too high for me. At the moment if I was to buy land, it would be on Splinterlands because it's already a long-time running, well-known and well-established blockchain game.
By the way, Upland was also one of the land-owning games I tried but had a really hard time grasping the whole idea of it. Have you played it and what was your experience?
Thank you for reading!

I tried Uplands but the token isnt free floating and its too centralised for my liking. I want to check out Alienworlds and we will see what happens in Splinterlands.
That's one thing for sure! I just wish AW had a little different mechanics, I would probably jump back in.

Thanks for stopping by from Noise anyway! Now I know why your username was so familiar, from Twitter!
The metaverse is just on the early stages and yet there are many projects where buying land became incredibly profitable, and this is just the beginning. If you have the funds, buying land in the metaverse might prove to be a very profitable strategy provided one does their own research and buys in carefully. Thanks for sharing your blog posts on Leo!

I still open Upland once a month or so to collect but even if I have an account there for more than a year I didn't bother to understand the game, its build in such a way that I don't understand it well...
Land, I have bought two pieces on the upcoming game https://ertha.io/, months ago I paid $1000 for both, they are currently worth $1290 but the game is not launched yet, I expect the price to grown when that happens.
I also own some land in RL but I can't be bothered to work it.

I was also so confused with Uplands and it felt like the tutorials were even more confusing! :D
Nice, think you were right on time. If the game is good and gets hype, those prices could skyrocket. And one of the best things about metaverse land is that it doesn't require that much work once bought, unlike RL land! :D

The Ertha land has resources on it, I could get some passive income when the game launches from players that would need those resources on my land. And it looks like plenty of people are interested in this game, this are the stats from their Discord server:
Pretty impressive stats indeed. Considering the game hasn't been launched yet. Those passive income streams, those are what I'm after for!

Also I've tried Upland and it seems like a really cool game but it required too much of my time, I couldn't go back & forth every so many minutes or hours. Sometimes I might even have to skip a day and when you do that you lose everything. Plus there wasn't enough info on how to play the game. So confusing.
Nice! Now we'll have to wait a couple of months to see where our land will be located. Interesting to see how this project will turn out to be, but since its free and easy to claim, then why not!
Pretty much my thoughts too. It's a shame really, it's a game I wanted to like but because of those same reasons you mentioned, I gave up on it.
Thanks for stopping by!
