Alphabet is the parent company of Google and YouTube in which the CEO quotes, "Any time there is innovation, I find it exciting, and I think it is something we want to support the best we can [...] The web has always evolved, and it’s going to continue to evolve, and as Google, we have benefited tremendously from open-source technologies, so we do plan to contribute there."

Definitely, tech companies have a way to run their businesses, this could be a stunt or this could be the next step to the next big thing that every companies are embracing.
China banned cryptocurrency just September 2020 but went on to embrace its blockchain technology in all areas of its government activities and major zones of the country including its capital Beijing.
