$2 Million Bounty Awarded To Hacker For Finding Bug In Optimism Code

Optimism is Ethereum's fourth largest layer-2 scaling solution by total locked value would have joined the series of hack stories we've heard but luckily it's a different story.

When it comes to hacking, hackers simply go to the code used in developing the system to find the slightest bug in the code and exploit it.
A bug however was found in Optimism code as Optimism called it a "critical bug" which would have allowed hackers to create as much ether Eth as they wanted.

This is likely the same that just happened some weeks ago in the DeFi platform Wormhole which was exploited of 120,000 wEth worth $320 million.

Jay Freeman, a white hat hacker and IOS jailbreak software Cyder developer descovered the bug in Optimism code and alerted them.
Jay Freeman shared a tweet of the won bounty as he descovered. Jay also wrote a post about the bug in his blog which he wrote, On 2/2/2022, I reported a critical security issue to Optimism—an "L2 scaling solution" for Ethereum—that would allow an attacker to replicate money on any chain using their "OVM 2.0" fork of go-ethereum (which they call l2geth).

Optimism shared that "analysis of Optimism’s chain history showed that the bug was not exploited (the bug seems to have been accidentally triggered on one occasion by an Etherscan employee but no usable excess ETH was generated)," in a post.
According to Optimism, the bug was fixed by Optimism’s Kovan and Mainnet networks within hours of receiving words from Jay Freeman.

It's not everyday we find act like this so it's worth it to hail the good ones who are out therewho do their best to remain true to themselves helping humanity become a better.
The issue would have turned out to be a sad one for the ethereum blockchain.

As I once stated, security issues should be taken into deeper consideration by programmers when delivering on a code. Time is well required to do a better job and meet targets but security is best to prevent issues that would be considered a failure in a long haul.

Thanks for visiting my blog, till next time.
