Movie Review: AlphaGo, My views |mis puntos de vista [EN-ESP]

Why am I reviewing AlphaGo? Firstly, AlphaGo is a documentary on how DeepMinds AI invention played against the world's top Go player, Lee Sedol.

A short background into what the Go game is.

Go is a Chinese game which was originated some 3000 years ago making it the oldest existing board game.
Although the game is very popular in China, Korea, and Japan, it is also played in some parts of the world. The game involves two players placing black or white stones on a designed grid, they gain points when they surround other players' pieces with their own.

Go game looks similar to Chess but its rules are simpler players can make 200 moves in Go, unlike Chess which is only limited to 20 moves.

So what is AlphaGo?

Okay, enough of the stories.
DeepMind, a software company embarked on the journey to test the dexterity of its AI project, called Alpha Go. The project was led by DeepMind's chief executive, Demis Hassabis.

AI versus human fight

In a bid to test the software, the company organized a series of games against Europe's top Go player, Fan Hui, and it won him in every round.
This great fit generated a lot of interest in the project because the AI community had initially predicted that it would take a decade for humans to lose to AI in the Go game.

To further prove the validity of the AlphaGo software, the company went further by testing it against a world-class Go player by setting up a competition between the software and which took place in Seoul, South Korea.

The game drew a lot of attention as many people didn't know what to expect, including the DeepMind team.

It was initially proposed that Lee would win the machine flawlessly being a consistently top-rated Go player. It is said that Lee is to Go as Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal, is to tennis (I don't want to offend tennis lovers, that's why I used both names lol).
One the first game, AlphaGo forced Lee to withdraw with the whole house full of surprise, Lee himself didn't see it coming and in a conference, he admitted the loss was due to an initial mistake he made at the start of the game which made him lose.
AlphaGo would proceed to win the 2nd and 3rd games as well and at this point, it was becoming embarrassing for Lee.
Questions started to be raised because the game wasn't just about Lee, but humanity.
If someone with his level and years of experience can lose not just one or two games but three to a machine, then we need to review our decision on how we have looked at AI.
At some point, someone from the DeepMind team had to invite Lee's, since it seemed like he would need someone he could analyze the game with.

What made AlphaGo so difficult?
Lee is he's among his peers so why would he lose easily to a machine that is still being developed?
The rate at which AlphaGo would play was much faster than the average Go player and it can look at the best possible options within seconds, something an average player can't do.

For Lee, it was like fighting a spirit from the physical, he was more used to facing his fellow human, he could read their emotions, and predict their moves, as part of the game's physiology. But here is Go, how does one psych a machine with no flesh and blood, just cold and no hint of what to expect?

Finally a win

In the fourth game, Lee performed extraordinarily by boxing AlphaGo to a very tight corner, leaving it to make decisions that would be considered rather irrational. Lee won this round and it was all the win he needed, not just him but the entire human raise. The win proved that humans still stand a chance no matter how small, against a machine.

Recommendation

We are in a world where things are changing d we have to do our best in staying in the known. AlphaGo will open your mind to see the possibilities that lie ahead as innovations keep happening around us.

A mi audiencia española
