Technology has been introduced little by little to the daily life of human beings, to the point of being something indispensable for day to day life. In both adults and teenagers it is an essential contribution to work and studies, but what impact does technology have on children under 10 years of age?

As a mother, I am concerned that technology is negative for the intellectual and social development of my daughter, who despite being very young, one of her entertainments is to watch her cartoons on her phone or tablet, highlighting what they say: Children are born learned.

I know that in the future she will make more use of technology and all that it encompasses, but I have also stopped to think how now that she is just in her full development, both physically, intellectually and emotionally, this is new to her and how it will affect that same development.

For the first time a study has been published that analyzes how it affects children under three years of age and concludes that it has a negative influence on the way they sleep. According to the study conducted at the University of London, there is a very clear correlation between the use of interactive screens by children between six months and three years old and a reduction in the time they spend sleeping.

Specifically, for every hour a day they spent with tablets, they reduced their night's sleep by 26 minutes. The blue light emitted by these devices sends signals that confuse the brain's natural sleep rhythms.
According to their study, babies aged 0 to 2 years should not have any contact with technology. From 3 to 5 years old they should only use it 1 hour a day and from 6 to 18 years old only 2 hours a day. Although in theory they are not accurate in this way.

This could affect brain development, sleep disturbances and too much radiation as children are more sensitive to these agents and there is a risk of contracting diseases.

New technologies are part of children's life nowadays and we can't forbid them either. But smartphones or tablets should never replace reading a good book or playing with siblings or friends. We must try to prevent adverse effects and ensure that our children spend only the right amount of time with technology.
