This weekend I took the opportunity to visit four more castles, and with each post, we get closer to the final goal. We're back in the Alentejo plains to visit two 13th-century fortifications, both of which have records of prehistoric occupation! So, we're in the presence of a lot of history in this post. Nuevamente estamos en los llanos alentejanos para visitar dos fortificaciones del siglo XIII, ¡y en ambas hay registros de ocupación de pobladores de la prehistoria! Welcome to one of the most beautiful castles I've visited, and it's quite well-preserved. It's located at the highest point of the village of Alandroal. Its construction dates back to the Order of Avis in 1294, a period after the Christian reconquest. An interesting fact is that a Moor started the fortress before the Portuguese restructuring. This Arab was named "Galvo," and even today his signature can be seen on a stone in one corner of the castle. I'm not entirely sure if I photographed it, but I saw some signatures on other stones, which I'll show you.🚩📍
Bienvenidos a uno de los castillos más bonitos que he visitado, y está bastante bien conservado. Se encuentra en el punto más alto de la villa de Alandroal y su construcción data de la Orden de Avis en el año 1294, época posterior a las reconquistas cristianas. Hay un dato interesante, y es que un moro fue quien inició la fortaleza antes de la reestructuración portuguesa. Ese árabe se llamaba "Galvo", y hasta hoy se observa su firma en una piedra de una esquina del castillo. No estoy muy seguro de si la fotografié, pero vi unas firmas en otras piedras que ya te muestro.🏰🌏

I think what impresses me most is the three-story keep; it's imposing and well-preserved, and it even has a clock integrated into it, which isn't very common to see! Inside, we found a church called "Nossa Senhora da Graça," which is connected to the city walls.🏰📍
Creo que lo que más me impresiona es la torre del homenaje de tres pisos: es imponente y está bien conservada. Además, tiene integrado un reloj, ¡cosa que no es muy común de ver! Adentro encontramos una iglesia llamada "Nossa Senhora da Graça", la cual está unida a las murallas.🗺️📸
With a Gothic style and strong Arab influence, this castle stands out for its beauty in the Alentejo landscapes. Its walls have an oval and polygonal shape, adapting well to the terrain. You can climb and walk the walls, and the courtyard is clear.📍🏰
Con un estilo gótico y una fuerte influencia árabe, este castillo resalta por su belleza en los paisajes alentejanos. Sus murallas tienen una forma ovalada y poligonal, adaptándose bien al terreno. Se puede subir y caminar por las murallas, y el patio está despejado.🚩🌏

Redondo Castle🌏🧭 / Castillo de Redondo📍🌏
I already saw that the name Redondo is because that's the name of the city, hehe. This one dates back to 1319! It's difficult to give an exact date, but it's estimated to be around that time. This castle is also integrated into urban life, even more so than Alandroal, since Alandroal has walls and is isolated, while this one isn't! The houses run right through the walls here. The Gothic style is still visible, and this beautiful architectural work of art maintains its two original gates.📸📍
El nombre Redondo ya vi que era porque así se llama la ciudad, jeje. ¡Este es del año 1319! Es difícil dar una fecha exacta, pero se estima que fue en esos años. Este castillo también está integrado en la vida urbana, hasta diría que mucho más que Alandroal, ya que aquel tiene murallas y está aislado, ¡este no! Las murallas aquí atraviesan las casas, el estilo gótico aún es visible y esta hermosa obra de arte arquitectónica mantiene sus dos puertas originales.🏞️🚙
I had never seen a castle with official measurements for textile merchants displayed on the wall to prevent customer fraud. Medieval fairs were held at the back gate, a tradition that continues to this day. This is nothing new, as I have seen many castles hosting such fairs. However, this one is in excellent condition, still maintaining its six towers and the keep.📸💂🏻♀️
Nunca había visto un castillo que tuviera las medidas oficiales para los comerciantes textiles en la pared para evitar fraudes a los clientes. En la puerta trasera se efectuaban ferias medievales que hasta el día de hoy se mantienen por tradición. ¡Esto no es nuevo! Ya vi muchos castillos que hacen estas ferias. Está en buenas condiciones; mantiene sus 6 torres y la torre del homenaje.🌏📍

🚩 Personally, I liked Alandroal better because it's independent and not so integrated into the city
🚩 Both are free and open every day, however always check Google Maps.
🚩 I'll give both of them 3/5 stars, placing them among the top 15 most beautiful I've seen so far
