My adventure in the Portuguese archipelago continues, and I've been enjoying my stay to the fullest. Today, we're going to visit some incredibly wild places, starting with the island's "lungs," where we'll find fumaroles emitting steam from the center of the "volcano." I read that the chances of a volcano erupting here are quite low; however, there's always a risk. This visit is unique in the world, and you rarely get an opportunity like this in Portugal! Continúa mi experiencia en el archipiélago de Portugal, y he disfrutado de mi estadía al máximo. Para hoy vamos a realizar una visita a unos locales súper salvajes, comenzando con el pulmón de la isla donde encontraremos unas fumarolas que expiden vapor del centro del "volcán". Para llegar al lugar, tienes que hacerlo en vehículo alquilado porque no hay transporte público. Es una zona bastante aislada. ¡Vi que puedes pagar algunos tours y te traen también! Todo queda a tu gusto. Desde el centro de Angra hasta aquí son poco más de 20 minutos; en la isla todo queda cerca. Vente con ropa cómoda y siempre preparado para la lluvia: botas impermeables,🌋📍
To get here, you'll need a rental car because there's no public transport; it's quite isolated. I saw that you can book some tours and they'll bring you here too! It's all up to you. From the center of Angra to here, it is just over 20 minutes. Everything on the island is close by. Come with comfortable clothes and always be prepared for rain, including waterproof boots.🚩🚙

Tourism here is usually inexpensive; a flight from Lisbon to here for two people typically costs around 450 euros. For four days, we spent less than 2,000 euros. What do you think? Estas fumarolas cuentan con más de veinte chimeneas activas catalogadas como monumento natural de la isla. Son furnas de azufre que representan el vulcanismo secundario de Angra. No son piscinas naturales; no es un lugar en el cual nos podamos bañar, es más para contemplar. El volcán donde están ubicadas se llama "Pico Alto" y es de las zonas más jóvenes de la isla. Estos vapores expulsan a la superficie vapor de agua, azufre y dióxido de carbono🏔️🌏.
These fumaroles, with more than twenty active ones listed as a natural monument of the island, are sulfurous furnaces that represent the secondary volcanism of Angra. They are not natural pools, nor is it a place where we can bathe; it is more for contemplation. The volcano where it is located is called "Pico Alto" and is one of the youngest areas of the island. These vapors expel water vapor, sulfur, and carbon dioxide to the surface.📍🚙

It's not a dangerous place, especially since it's almost impossible to fall because of the wooden fences; it's like a small path to also enjoy the scenery. However, respect nature; falling into these fumaroles is deadly, at only half a meter deep it's 130 degrees Celsius.🏔️🌋
No es un sitio peligroso, hasta porque es casi imposible caerte debido que tienes cercas de madera, es como un pequeno sendero para tambien disfrutar del paisaje, sin embargo respeta la naturaleza, caer en estas fumarolas es mortal, a tan solo medio metro de profundidad hace 130 grados centigrados.🚩✅

Vamos a resaltar que sobre las piedras notaremos diferentes colores en la arena transformada en arcilla. Esto se debe a que las fumarolas emanan compuestos químicos que tornan la tierra de varios colores: blanco por el aluminio, rojo por el hierro y amarillo por el azufre.🏔️🌋

Something to highlight about this area is that it has quite extreme climatic conditions and soil with rather atypical physicochemical properties. The extraordinary thing is that life finds a way and can grow under these conditions. How is it possible to see plants in areas where steam rises? Incredible, isn't it? There is an endemic moss, Sphagnum nitidulum, which is the king of survival and adaptation🏔️🚩
Algo para resaltar sobre esta zona es que tiene condiciones climáticas bastante extremas y un suelo con propiedades fisicoquímicas bastante atípicas. Lo extraordinario es que la vida se abre camino y puede crecer bajo estas condiciones. ¿Cómo es posible ver plantas en las zonas donde sale el vapor? Increíble, ¿no? Existe un musgo endémico, Sphagnum nitidulum, que es el rey de la supervivencia y adaptación🌏🚙

The only waterfall on the island🙇🏻‍♀️ / La unica cascada de la isla📍

We visited the island's only waterfall, called Frechas, located in the park of the same name. In mainland Portugal, waterfalls dry up completely in the summer; however, the island's different climate means we might encounter a rainy day, making the waterfall visible almost year-round. You can have a picnic in the park🏔️📍.
Visitamos la única cascada de la isla, llamada Frechas, ubicada en el parque que lleva ese mismo nombre. En Portugal continental las cascadas se secan en su totalidad en verano; sin embargo, al tener la isla un clima diferente, podríamos encontrarnos con algún día de lluvia, haciendo que la cascada esté visible casi todo el año. En el parque puedes hacer un picnic.🌋✅

Cada sendero es una experiencia única. Qué interesante que se pueda hacer picnic acá y tomando las medidas de seguridad, se avanza sin problema siguiendo la cerca de madera. El paisaje es precioso y la cascada también, no es raro encontrar cerca a los helechos (Pteridium aquilinum) por la humedad del suelo.

No conocía las fumarolas !! Estabas caminando prácticamente por encima de un volcán ? o entendí mal 🤔 Vi el camino vallado y dije es seguro pero dijiste que si uno cae esos vapores llegan a 130°C 😱 !! O sea es seguro pero hay que ir prestando atención a lo que se hace.
Me gustó, no sabía que existía algo así.
