How beautiful is the city of "Chaves", so medieval, so historic, it is part of the cultural heritage of Portugal, it is one of the few places whose architecture is kept as original as possible, few houses in the historic center are allowed to modify their facade, and as I had promised we added another new castle to my list to be the first person to document that I visit ALL THE CASTLES OF PORTUGAL and I hope to leave that mark in HIVE.⛰️🚩
Qué hermosa es la ciudad de "Chaves", tan medieval, tan histórica, forma parte del patrimonio cultural de Portugal, es uno de los pocos sitios cuya arquitectura se mantiene lo más original posible, pocas casas en el casco histórico tienen permitido modificar su fachada, y como lo había prometido sumamos otro nuevo castillo a mi lista para ser la primera persona en documentar que visito TODOS LOS CASTILLOS DE PORTUGAL y espero dejar esa huella en HIVE.🏰🚙

To reach this beautiful fortification, you must travel north in Portugal, a couple of hours from Porto, specifically to the parish of "Santa Maria Maior." When traveling in the north of the country to cities like Chaves, it's always recommended to use your own vehicle because public transport is scarce on the outskirts; you'll only be able to get around within the city center. The entrance fee is 1 euro per adult, and try to carry coins in your bag because they are needed even to pay for parking.🙋🏻♂️⛰️
Para llegar a esta hermosa fortificacion debemos viajar hacia el norte de Portugal a un par de horas desde Porto exactamente a la parroquia: "Santa Maria Maior"; para desplazarte en el norte del país a ciudades como Chaves es siempre recomendado hacerlo con un vehículo propio porque el transporte público es escaso a las afueras, solo conseguirás moverte dentro del centro de la ciudad, la entrada tiene un costo de 1euro por adulto y trata de moverte con monedas en tu bolso porque son necesarias hasta para pagar el estacionamiento.⛺🧭

I was there at the end of summer and a fire broke out nearby, making the visit a bit unpleasant. There was ash everywhere and the air smelled of smoke... Well... It's nobody's fault, but I just wanted to share my experience and a reason NOT to come in the summer. Also, there are long lines because it's packed with tourists. The gardens are probably not from medieval times and were added in later centuries. Entry is free, and you can walk around the castle and enjoy the beautiful view of the city. From this vantage point, you can also see the famous Roman bridge of Chaves.🏰🚙
Estuve a finales de verano y nos agarró un incendio en los alrededores, esta visita fue un poco incómoda, por eso había cenizas por todos lados y el ambiente tenía un olor a quemado... Bueno... No es culpa de nadie esto, pero solo quería relatarles mi historia y una desventaja para NO VENIR EN VERANO, además hay muchas filas porque esto es abarrotado por turistas, los jardines posiblemente no son de la época medieval y fueron agregados en siglos posteriores, aquí no tenemos que pagar nada y puedes dar una vuelta alrededor del castillo, además de disfrutar la hermosa vista de la ciudad y desde esta altura podemos ver el puente romano muy famoso de Chaves.🌍🚩

There is no exact date for the construction of the castle, but it is believed that the first walls were built by the Romans from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. Subsequently, the city suffered many sieges and conquests, as the Visigoths, Suebi, and Alans all disputed the lands, and even the Moors seized them from the Visigoths in the 8th century.🤴🏻🧔🏻♂️

After the period of reconquests by Henry, the battles between the Moors and the Christians continued until the 11th century. The first Christian conquest was between the years 866-910. When this occurred, the castle walls around the city were fortified. In the first quarter of the 10th century, Chaves returned to the hands of the Arabs, only to be definitively conquered in 1230.🚙⛰️

After the medieval war the castle was abandoned, but in 1664 the Restoration War arrived and the castle served again as a fortification; modern weaponry was installed and the walls were improved. The same was applied in the Peninsular War when the Napoleonic invasion occurred.🌍📍
Posterior a la guerra medieval el castillo fue abandonado pero en el año 1664 llego la guerra de restauración y allí el castillo sirvió de nuevo como una fortificación, se instalaron armamento moderno y las murallas se mejoraron, lo mismo fue aplicado en la guerra peninsular cuando ocurra la invasión napoleónica.🚙🏕️
