Cape Town Dock Work

avatar

Good day all! This is Zak Ludick writing to you from the harbor in Cape Town, South Africa. I am busy on an ship project and as such it is rather difficult to put out my usual content! I can however bring to you sights and sounds that would be unusual to most viewers.

12 hour shifts from 7 to 7, overalls, safety boots, hard hat and safety glasses is the standard norm for all workers in the docks here.

Have a look at where I am working!

Table Mountain, when it is covered like this we call it the "tablecloth".

I will speak in more details when I have the time to do so. When I have some gaps I need to write more fiction!

Cheers!
@zakludick

Interesting photos ! Is it a trick of the light, or has the Coral Sea really got a big hole near the bow ?

Naw, it's just a lot of rust... it is a very rust ship.

lol, yeah I looked up a few images of her. Even 20 years ago she was a rustbucket, so I guess by now the metal is long gone and she's just made of a hundred coats of paint. 😁

Maybe she'll go the way of MOL Comfort.... https://gcaptain.com/mol-comfort-incident-photos/ - one of our wholesalers lost all the 2013 Tamiya UK Christmas stock when the "mysterious fire" broke out the day after Lloyds announced they were going to launch an investigation....

Wow! Ouch!

Yeah I think they grind down, replace some of the worst metal and weld it in and then paint it up again.
