Der C64 war ein legendärer 8-bit Computer, der Anfang der 1980-er Jahren auf den Markt kam und für heutige Verhältnisse technisch enorm limitiert war.

Man konnte zum Beispiel nicht einmal den gesamten Bildschirm nutzen, sondern je nach PAL oder NTSC-Version gab es einen ziemlich heftigen Rahmen. In der PAL-Version war der Rahmen sogar noch dicker.

Andererseits konnte man die Farbe des Rahmens ändern, in dem man den Farbwert in die Speicheradresse 53280 (0xD020) schrieb und sich das Timing der TV-Scanlines zunutze machen, um einen Farbeffekt zu erzeugen, wenn man die Rahmenfarbe schnell genug geändert hat.

Ich habe mit ChatGPT ein kleines Hello-World-Programm für den C64 entwickelt, der diesen Effekt demonstriert.

Witzigerweise hat ChatGPT Visual Basic und C64 Basic verwechselt und wollte einen Modulo-Operator nutzen, den es in C64 Basic V2 noch gar nicht gegeben hat.

For example, you couldn't even use the whole screen, but depending on the PAL or NTSC version, there was a pretty hefty border. In the PAL version the frame was even thicker.

On the other hand, you could change the color of the border by writing the color value to memory address 53280 (0xD020) and take advantage of the timing of the TV scanlines to create a color effect if you changed the frame color fast enough.

I developed a small Hello World program for the C64 using ChatGPT that demonstrates this effect.

Funny enough ChatGPT confused Visual Basic and C64 Basic and wanted to use a modulo operator that didn't exist in C64 Basic V2.

I never heard of this program language but it's kind of crazy how ChatGPT can write the code. It had to do a lot of stuff to create the right code but it's still able to give people a head start.
