Introduction
Chemistry is the science that deals with the properties, composition and structure of substances. It also deals with the transformations they undergo and the energy that is released or absorbed during these transformation processes.
The set of notions that make up this subject is broad. Chemistry appears to be a subject divided into a large number of substances and different from each other, but there is a common basis.
One of the most important stages in the history of chemistry was the creation of the "atomic theory." According to this theory by J. Dalton, each element consisted of indivisible particles called atoms, each of which was characterized by well-defined chemical properties.
The mission of chemistry is to develop a coherent explanation for the complex behavior of materials. This science seeks to explain why materials appear as they do, what gives them their enduring properties, and how interactions between different substances can lead to the formation of new substances.
Atom and molecules
The structure of the atom consists of three particles. These particles are called fundamental subatomic particles. They are: protons, neutrons and electrons.
The size of these particles is very small and, depending on the way they are able to aggregate and their number, they determine the difference between one substance and another.
The nucleus is composed of protons and neutrons. Protons have a positive charge, while neutrons have no electrical charge.
Electrons, of negative charge, move a certain distance from the nucleus.
Below is a table with the particle's name, mass, charge, and symbol.
Conclusions
Chemistry studies the behavior of substances and their composition. The breakthrough in this science came with the "atomic theory" devised by John Dalton. He was the first who tried to describe the atom, and this occurred in the early 1800s.

Introduzione
