Robots: Competitors or Co-Workers?

Hello Everyone,

In the recent years, we have seen robots and machines replacing many jobs that was done by humans. As technology advances, robots are becoming cleverer and computer learn to perform tasks with greater efficiency. They bring many benefits and also makes fewer mistakes, saves money, works faster and more precisely. This is one of the reasons where businesses in all fields are beginning to use more machines.

One such example is that machines can now do a lot of human tasks, with even robot astronauts being developed by NASA. Soldiers are also slowing being replaced, first by drones and also with robot soldiers being developed, though this may be seen as an advantage to many as it will save lives.

Due to the deadly pandemic, more organisations are thinking of moving towards automation and cloud infrastructure which can perform tasks tirelessly 24/7 without interruption. However, these organisation strategies are very useful in countries which has less human work force or aging population.

On one hand where these technological development and utilization is improving the quality of life and creating new job possibilities, on the other hand the the unskilled or low level qualified workers are fighting for there place in the industries with lack of training. Most of the countries are still relying on human workforce because of low cost of labor and high population.

Even though machines have had an upper hand in the recent times, I personally think the machines are helping people to make things better in life and along with it comes great opportunity. Many companies have increased their hiring capacity to accommodate for the workflow and have advanced to a greater level. This is a win-win situation for all.

Considering that machines might be really thought well and be made smarter than humans, they lack few things where humans outdo robots.

  1. Empathy - In much current research, keep in mind that neither scientists nor philosophers can agree on what emotions actually are. Besides, no matter how sophisticated a robot’s emotional equipment becomes we still understand that it is merely a set of behaviors a machine has been programmed to sense and exhibit. As long as robots lack true empathy, complex human interactions will continue to require actual humans.

  2. Flexibility - Robots are getting better at learning and applying their learning to new situations, but they are still far from being able to respond to unexpected situations with the same resourcefulness as a person. Most of the time, new situations still require human intervention and, when available and appropriate, new programming

  3. Acceptability and Trust - We getting used to having robots in our environments. It will be awhile, before the average adult responds to a fully autonomous robot the way they do in futuristic movies like discussing an injury with a quasi-sentient machine as if it were fully able to comprehend the distress.

Whats your view on this?
