They have gone up recently. During the crypto winter, Nano's were almost being given away. The X is quite flimsy but I have and use one. Don't lose your 25 word string or you lose all.

I keep mine secure.
The best course of action when you lose the words is to immediately initial another device as a new wallet and start moving funds while your "lost Ledger" is still accessible via pins, etc.
Then, change out all your exchange whitelists. It'll be a pain, but need to be done.
In theory, it'd have to be absolutely catastrophic for you to not only lose the words, but also have busted devices.
Mine crashed once and rebooted. I needed all those 25 words and wrote one down incorrectly. There's a list on the internet on what they can all be. Using powers of deduction I correctly guessed and the day was saved (along with with my BTC, ETH, LTC etc...). It was a close one.
That definitely sounds way too close for comfort.
