Human Eye Anatomy

The eye is a sensitive and priceless sensory organ in the human body. It allows us to see the colors all around us and this wonderful world. We can recognize objects to some extent with our eyes closed based on their smell, taste, sound, or touch. But pupil, it's impossible to distinguish colors when your eyes are closed. The ability to see the vibrant world around us makes the human eye the most crucial of all the senses.
Similar to a camera is the human eye. On the retina, also known as the light-sensitive screen, its lens-body creates an image. Through a slender membrane, light enters the eye. This transparent bulge on the front surface of the eyeball is a membrane known as the cornea, or clear circle. The eyeball is almost spherical in shape and has a diameter of 2.3 cm. The outer surface of the cornea is where the majority of light rays that enter the eye are refracted. The crystalline lens only modifies the focal length slightly to focus objects that are positioned at various distances on the retina. The iris is a structure located behind the cornea. The iris is a thick, muscular diaphragm that regulates pupil size. The pupil regulates how much light reaches the eye. On the retina, the eye lens creates an accurate and inverted image of the object. There are many light-sensitive cells in the retina, a delicate microscopic membrane. The light-sensitive cells become active and send out electrical signals when they are illuminated. The visual nerves transmit these signals to the brain. We see an object as it is when the brain interprets these signals and eventually processes the data.

Do you know that our eyes continue to exist even after we pass away?

After we pass away, we can illuminate the life of a blind person by giving our eyes as a gift. There are 35 million blind people in developing nations, and the majority of them can have their vision corrected. The transplantation of corneas obtained through eye donation can treat the condition that causes corneal blindness in about 4.5 million people. 60% of these 45 lakh people are children under the age of 12. So why not lend our eyes to those who lack vision if we have the gift of sight? What considerations should we make when donating eyes?

  • Anyone can donate eyes, regardless of age or gender; those who wear glasses or have had cataract surgery are also eligible. Patients with asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, and those without any infectious diseases are also eligible to donate eyes.

  • Eye removal ought to happen 4–6 hours after death. Therefore, notify the local eye bank right away.

  • At the deceased person's home or hospital, the eye bank team will remove it. The removal of the eye takes only ten to fifteen minutes. There is no distortion of any kind, and the process is straightforward.

  • people with AIDS, Hepatitis B, or C (Hepatitis B or C). Those who have died from rabies, leukemia, tetanus, cholera, meningitis, or encephalitis are not eligible to donate eyes.

Donor eyes are gathered, examined, and distributed by the eye bank.
High medical standards are used to evaluate all donated eyes.
The use of non-transplantable eyes is crucial for research and medical instruction. Both the donor and the eye's recipient maintain their anonymity. Up to four people with corneal blindness can see with a pair of eyes.

Thanks.......
I hope you all liked this post and you can also earn merit by donating your eyes.
