Summary of my week-long Math trigonometry mini-contest on D.Buzz for May 2021 😎

From May 24 to 31 last month, I held a 7-day Math mini-contest for D.Buzz featuring trigonometry problems! 😎

Β
The rules were posted at https://stemgeeks.net/@savvyplayer/official-rules-for-my-week-617eb96796fcb.

For the entirety of the Math mini-contest, there had been only one participant - @minus-pi. ☝️ The people who could have been participants might either be too busy during the week, found trigonometry problems too difficult for them, or found the contest rules to be too complicated for them. πŸ€” Whatever reasons they might have had for not joining would not be known, unless they gave their feedback for my mini-contest. πŸ€”πŸ€” I thought that posting my mini-contest rules and daily solutions on the #StemGeeks community would have promoted engagement, but I might be missing something. 😐

As planned, the challenge problems themselves had a maximum of 280 characters (including the post title) and posted on the D.Buzz community to help promote engagement within that community. πŸ™‚

Listed below are the Math problems I asked, together with their answers. Each problem-answer pair is hyperlinked to their corresponding posts visible on the #StemGeeks community (the challenge problems themselves were posted on the D.Buzz community). πŸ‘‡

DayProblemAnswerWinner
Day 1Manuel found that cos (2ΞΈ) = -7 and ΞΈ is not in the first quadrant. To remember it more easily, he wants to convert cos (2ΞΈ) into sin (ΞΈ). What is the value of sin (ΞΈ)?no solution@minus-pi
Day 2A calculator of Ahmad can perform only the sine function in trigonometry. The arc tangent value of an angle is 30.26Β°. What is the sine value of the angle?no solutionnone
Day 3Triangle ABC has C as the right angle. Fang recalls that the value of sin A has a numerator of 15. Manga remembered that the value of sin A is less than the value of cos A. What is the value of cos A?√(2)/2 < cos A < 1@minus-pi
Day 4Vision knew that the value of tan (2A), where A is one of the acute angles of a right triangle with integer sides, has a value of approximately 1.0084. What is the minimum possible area of the triangle?30 square unitsnone
Day 5For a triangle DEF whose height is FG and G is on side DE, Manga got arctan (FG/DG) β‰ˆ 1.176, while Minos got arctan (FG/GE) β‰ˆ 0.330. What is the minimum possible area of the triangle if FG is an integer?8.6863 square unitsnone
Day 6Holovision needs to design a 50-sided regular polygon for his new holographic project. Given any four consecutive vertices EFGH, the distance of E from H is 36 centimeters. What is the area of the polygon?28,914 cmΒ²@minus-pi
Day 7Triangle FAN is circumscribed in a circle G. Fang already solved for the following in the circle: NG measures 4 meters, FN measures 5 meters, and AN measures 6 meters. What should Fang's answer regarding the measure of arc FA be?12.19 meters@minus-pi

Thanks to the supporters and the only participant! 😁

@minus-pi got the correct answer for 5 of the daily problems! πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…πŸ… Since he had been the only participant for that month and won at least once, he got the entire prize pool of 7 HIVE for the contest. πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°

Participants for last month's Math mini-contest: @jfang003, @ahmadmanga (@ahmadmangazap), @eturnerx (@eturnerx-dbuzz), and @dkmathstats πŸ‘‹
Special mentions: @dbuzz, @chrisrice, @jancharlest, and @mehmetfix 🀯

@holovision did not participate in my Math mini-contest for the last 2 months. πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹ His username was featured on 2 of my problems for the month's Math mini-contest. πŸ˜„

😁 Thanks for reading! 😁

Congrats @minus-pi & Good job @savvyplayer for coming up with these questions and the effort for this contest every day.

Thanks to the supporters and the only participant!

Hahaha! Somehow, I feel attacked. As I didn't take part even though I got notifications.

I'll try to be around next month if you plan to run it again. Life got a bit busy for me last month.

I do not think running another Math mini-contest after the May 2021 contest got only exactly one participant is worth the time and effort. 🀯😐

Perhaps when there is a noticeable significant increase in Hive users who love Math, I would hold another mini-contest. πŸ€” I don't have enough feedback from people to determine what caused the major lack of participants. 😐 Is it the time of the month? πŸ€” The difficulty of the problems? πŸ€” Or something about the rules (particularly about the required engagement on D.Buzz)? 🀯

Sorry for the late reply.

I was a bit busy so I didn't have as much time. I kind of forgot about the quiz as well but I do try to make time for it if I am available.

It looks like everyone else aside from @minus-pi got busy for the entire week I held the May 2021 Math mini-contest for D.Buzz. 😞

Thanks for your reply! πŸ˜€

thanks a lot for running this contest!! It was a lot of fun to wrap my head around topics that I haven't thought about for years. This brought up some memories, and I'm glad I wasn't completely lost with tasks :)
Looking forward to a follow-up contest, hopefully with more participants!
