At this point, many of us have heard of NFT's or Non-Fungible Tokens. But some of us may be wondering "How have NFT's affected (if at all) the Ethereum blockchain?". In this article, we will be answering this question and discussing this in a little bit more detail.

To begin discussing this, we first need to know what is primarily used to purchase NFT's. Surprise! (Possibly, not really) It's both Ether and Ethereum.

The first known NFT to be brought to the Ethereum blockchain has a mint of August 7, 2015, and was made by Terra Nullius. NFT's slowly gained popularity until 2021 when NFT's started (and still are at the time this was written in early 2022) to become a trend worldwide. Since then, NFT's have evolved rapidly along with the high price of these art pieces in Ethereum since NFT's have become such a huge trend.

One big example of NFT's are NFT's from "Bored Ape Yacht Club" or BAYC. One image of one of the BAYC NFT's is shown above. An NFT from BAYC averages in price at around 115 Ethereum or $308,560 USD (At the time that this was written).

Now if somebody sees an NFT that they like, they may be thinking "Hey I like this, but I shouldn't have to be 110 Ethereum for this, I can just download the image.". Technically you could but you shouldn't. Just like any sort of physical art, NFT's have ownership and copyright.

Now that we have a good idea of how NFT's are becoming such a trend, we can finally get into the main discussion of this article. How have NFT's affected the Ethereum blockchain?

Since NFT's have become a huge trend on the Ethereum blockchain, NFT's have seen a massive ascent in value (At the time this was written).

The NFT market, largely built on the Ethereum blockchain, has seen a rapid ascent in value and trading volumes as the value of ether, the native token of its chain, appreciated massively.

While the Ethereum blockchain is booming, the blockchains of other crypto are paying the price for it. Primarily Bitcoin which saw a price drop of 8.6% (At the time this article was written).

To conclude this, NFT's have had a positive effect on the Ethereum blockchain but have negatively affected other blockchains.
