The first written work on mineralogy is considered to have been carried out by the Greek philosopher Theofrastus (372-287 BC), entitled Pery Lyton of which a considerable part is preserved, and another work by himself entitled Treatise on metals which is lost. Four hundred years later, Pliny recorded the mineralogical thinking of his time. During the following centuries, few works on minerals were published, which contained scholarship and advice with little truthful information.😍😮

The emergence of Mineralogy as a science can well be indicated by the work of the German physicist Georgius Agricola who in 1556 published De Re Metallica, a work in which he manifests the mining and metallurgical practices of that time and includes the first true report of minerals. Later, in 1669, Nicolas Steno made a great contribution to Crystallography, the "Law of the constancy of interfacial angles", proposed from the study of quartz crystals, where regardless of the origin, size or crystalline habit, the angles between corresponding faces are constant.🕵️‍♂️👨‍🎓

More than a century passed before the next contribution was made. In 1780 Carangeot invented a device to measure the interfacial angles of crystals, that is, the contact goniometer. Romé de L´isle, in 1783, made angular measurements on different crystals, thus confirming the law of the constancy of interfacial angles. In the following year, 1784, René J. Haüy demonstrated that crystals are built by stacking and without interruption of small identical blocks, which he called integral molecules, a term that subsists almost in its original sense in the unit cells of Crystallography modern. Later this French physicist, in 1801 developed the theory of rational indices for the faces of crystals.💥😊

Mineral classification is based on chemical composition and internal structure, which together represent the essence of a mineral and determine its physical properties. According to the chemical composition, minerals are divided into classes according to the dominant anion or anionic group, for example, oxides, halides, sulfides and silicates, among others.🕵️‍♂️👨‍🎓

Optical mineralogy, within physical mineralogy, an important property in minerals is the study of the behavior of different wavelengths through them, giving rise to this technique for studying minerals. Which can be defined as the study of minerals in thin section (30 microns thick) under the polarizing or petrographic microscope. If the optical analysis is carried out by studying the behavior of the wavelengths that are reflected by opaque minerals, a further branch is established, known as Mineragraphy, which is the study of opaque minerals in polished section and under the microscope. reflection or mineragraphic.🙂😏

A mine is the set of workings or holes necessary to exploit minerals in a deposit and, in some cases, the attached plants for the treatment of the extracted mineral. Mines are also called "mining operations", or simply "operations". Minerals originate from both internal geological processes (tectonism and volcanism) that are extracted from the subsoil, and external (sedimentation) are taken from some caves or caverns.😍😍

Underground mining develops its activity below the surface through underground workings. In comparative terms, the machinery used in underground mining is much smaller than that used in the open pit, due to the limitations imposed by the size of the galleries and other mining tasks. The characteristic tasks of this exploitation system are: tunnels, caverns, mouth or opening, barracks, gallery, well, chimney, etc. There are different methods of exploitation that are divided into supported by pillars, supported by fill and subsidence.😚😚
