Corroios is a parish of the Seixal council, it is located about 20km from the capital! In Portugal, the cameras that manage the economy of each council, with the passing of time have recovered these historical structures to educate the general public how wheat was ground many centuries ago! this particular mill is one of the best preserved as it was bought by the camera and recovered!๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

When we look and detail the landscape around the mill we immediately realize that the area is swampy, but it was not always like this! Centuries ago the mills were built at the bifurcations of the rivers, and it is to take advantage of the tide, at the end of the mill's functionality, sediment accumulated creating those elevations of land and swamp! but long ago it was all water!๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿ’คโ—โ—

The mill was built in 1403, who gave the construction order was Cardinal Nuno รlvares Pereira, this character! One of the problems faced by the government for the recovery of mills is that for generations the property belonged to a family, this was passed from generation to generation! When the government decides to buy the mill there is always a family dispute because when there are many brothers and sisters not all are willing to sell the property to the camera!๐Ÿค”

Here we can see all the tide mills built in Western Europe, civilization in the Middle Ages understood that a mill that works with marine energy was much more efficient than a mill that worked with wind! because? easy tides can be predicted, so work efficiency is increased! the wind cannot be predicted, there is not always wind so the mill stopped being productive! The constructors of the time understood that it was better to build the tide mills in ramifications of the rivers, since there is a noticeable change in tide, if a tide mill was built directly in the river, the water is always in circulation and never you will notice the low tide!๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿฆณ๐Ÿ‘ด

These structures are a piece of history and show us how our country was raised technologically to learn to use the kinetic energy of water! it was hard work because the 50kg sacks of ground seeds were carried on their shoulders by the workers!๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ

The mill retains much of its original structure, only some repairs and conditioning have been made to receive the public, such as lighting, air conditioning for the summer! a new roof was placed since the old one was very worn from the rest the mill is original๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’–
El molino conserva mucha de su estructura original, solo se han realizado algunas reparaciones y acondicionamiento para recibir al publico, como colocar iluminacion, aire acondicionado para el verano! se coloco un techo nuevo ya que el antiguo estaba muy desgastado de resto el molino es original๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ˜

There is a famous story that is told about this mill, the last man who worked in the mill died in 1999, at the age of 95, he never stopped working! after his death the mill began to decay and its structure began to deteriorate until the chamber bought the mill from his family!
Hay una historia famosa que se cuenta de este molino, el ultimo hombre que trabajo en el molino murio en 1999, a la edad de 95 aรฑos, nunca paro de trabajar! luego de su muerte el molino comenzo a decaer y su estructura comenzo a deteriorarse hasta que la camara compro el molino a su familia!

Mills were never built in Lisbon because there is never low tide in that area, so it was not possible to put them to work because the water did not allow an entry and exit from it! When we enter the mill we can see original restored pieces from the XV, XVI, XVIII centuries, this allows us to travel back in time and visualize how these people work!๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ˜ถ
En Lisboa nunca se construyeron molinos porque en esa zona nunca hay marea baja, por lo que no era posible poner a funcionar porque el agua no permitia una entrada y salida de la misma! cuando entramos en el molino podemos ver piezas originales restauradas del siglo XV, XVI, XVIII, esto nos permite viajar en el tiempo y visualizar como trabajan estas personas!๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Our colleague expert in tide mills explains that the process begins here, when the tide is high the force of the water pushes that door and fills the boiler area, the door only closes when the tide begins to go down! a whole automatic process๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ

After the tide is low the water cannot get out of the boiler because the door has been closed! The second step is the job of the person in charge of the mill and is to open the gates for the water to enter the mill, move the gear system and a piece begins to grind the seeds!๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š
Luego que la marea es baja el agua no puede salir de la caldera porque la puerta se ha cerrado! el segundo paso es el trabajo de la persona encargada del molino y es abrir las compuertas para el agua entrar dentro del molino mover el sistema de engranaje y una pieza comienza a moler las semillas!๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

This mill has 8 gates that are opened manually by lifting that lever that you see there with a rope, the openings of the gates depended on the amount of work that had to be done, if there were few seeds to grind, there would have been 2 to 3 gates, if it was a lot of work, they opened at 8! when the water passed through the hatch it moved the gears and the seed was ground here!๐Ÿคฉ
Este molino cuenta con 8 compuertas que se abren manualmente al levantar esa palanca que ves alli con una cuerda, las aberturas de las compuertas dependian de la cantidad de trabajo que habia para hacer, si era pocas semillas para moler se habrian 2 a 3 compuertas, si era mucho trabajo se abrian las 8! cuando el agua pasaba por la compuerta movia los engranajes y por aqui se molia la semilla!๐Ÿค—

The movement of the water moved a circular stone, the ground seed fell into a basket! and that's basically how the process was! this mill is interesting because it has a gear system! it is not a direct main axis! By creating a gear system the efficiency of the force and speed to grind the wheat is increased!๐Ÿ˜„
El movimiento del agua movia una piedra circular la semilla molida caia en una cesta! y listo basicamente asi era el proceso! este molino es interesante porque tiene un sistema de engranaje! no es un eje principal directo! al crear un sistema de engranaje se aumento la eficiencia de la fuerza y rapidez para moler el trigo!๐Ÿ˜

There are some modifications to the tide mills, but the best performance is always sought! And as I mentioned before adding a gear system instead of being a main shaft gave 45% more performance than the conventional tide mill!๐Ÿ˜‹
Existen algunas modificaciones en los molinos de marea, pero siempre se busca el mejor rendimiento! y como lo mencionaba anteriormente aรฑadir un sistema de engranaje en vez de ser un eje principal dio un rendimiento de 45% mas al molino de marea convencional!๐Ÿ™‚

This area is incredible and full of history and knowledge, observing the measuring tools, weighing, the wheelbarrow, everything that the workers used to work the grain was incredible!๐Ÿ˜Ž

In 1755 Portugal experienced a great tragedy that destroyed many cities, the largest earthquake in history occurred, the mill suffered many damages, our guide showed us that in the walls you could see differences in the works you can see the structure of the Middle Ages and red bricks that were already used in the decades to follow! This is the last phase of the mill process, you can see here the gates I was talking about, basically here the water came out that made the mill work!๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿฆพ๐Ÿง
