Hello friends, first of all I wish you all a very successful start to the year! In my first post of this 2022 I decided to scrutinize the sky looking for another mysterious constellation, in my search for the unknown I have come across the strange constellation called (minor leo) in the sky it is very difficult to locate it because it goes almost unnoticed, its stars are not very bright so little is known about her! in my post we are going to highlight the main characteristics of leo minor.

๐ŸŒŒ๐Ÿช๐ŸŒ

As I mentioned before, the constellation is one of the smallest in the sky, it can hardly be seen without equipment, The constellation is described and recognized by presenting a triangle shape, if we want to locate it quickly without using any search program we go to the major bear and I read, when we locate both constellations then we arrive at "leo minor" we should not fall into error confused with the constellation "Leo" leo is one of the ancient constellations described in Ptolemy a couple of centuries before Christ!
๐Ÿช๐Ÿช

Every astronomer knows the history of what happened to the leo minor, what happened is that the astronomer Baily when he was describing the constellation, an unexpected accident happened when it was time to assign the Greek letters to the stars, he forgot to start with the "alpha" "And unlike the rest of the other constellations this one does not present an alpha star which is very strange to see! All the stars that make up this small constellation have a magnitude greater than 4. This measurement tells us that they all have very little brightness in the sky!๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

It was not very difficult for me to locate the constellation in the sky and instead of using the coordinates, use the SKYMAPS program, and make comparisons of the stars that are around so that the union of stars was as accurate as possible, if you look for references on the internet or Constellation maps could run into some positions or unions, not necessarily the constellation is shown in the form of a "triangle" there are maps where they show a union of 2 stars in this case: (beta, 46 Leonis Minoris), in others we see 3 stars! what matters here is to unite the stars correctly!โ—๐Ÿ’ฏโœ…

The constellation leo minor has a named star (Praecipua) and we could call it the "alpha" because it is the brightest of all, then the beta minoris follows! When we read a little about the constellation we locate some planets that are "extrasolar" that is, they do not revolve around the sun as in the case of our solar system, the problem with these planets is that they are very far away and cannot be seen with normal telescopes, they have to use very powerful telescopes! Almost every time we see photos of exoplanets they are from NASA! rest there is nothing else within the constellation bone we will not get any deep object!
๐Ÿช๐ŸŒŒ๐ŸŒ

MAIN STARS๐ŸŒŒ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿซ/ESTRELLAS PRINCIPALES๐Ÿค”๐Ÿง

img_1079.jpg

Generally, leo minor stars are described with numbers except for beta minoris, as I mentioned earlier, it is not the one that emits the most brightness, this is a binary star, it has a magnitude of "4.21" as it is a binary composed of two stars one of them is a yellow giant, and it is what we are seeing exactly in the photo! This star is more than 140 million light years away; its temperature is about 5000kelvin, and it shines +30 times than our sun!๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

img_1079_c_pia.jpg

This in theory should be the "alpha" of the constellation but it does not have a "denomination" so it was given the number 46, it has a magnitude of 3.83 so we know that it is the brightest star, its distance from our system solar is 98 light years, this is a giant orange star, with a temperature of more than 4600kelvin!๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Then the constellation is made up of 20 leonis minoris and R leonis minoris, one is a binary with 2 yellow and red dwarfs and the other is a variable with very high magnitudes, 6 and 13! It is all the information that is known about the constellation, there is no mythological data since it was recently discovered, there is an interesting fact that we can see in the constellation they are called (hanny objects), let's say they are space bodies made of gases that were only discovered in 2008.๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
