Security researchers should be treated much differently than cybercriminals!
Heh, I still think that Poly Network thing might be an inside job.
Definitely a possibility. Insider knowledge can go a long way to undermining security.
At some point a black hat hacker might have realized it would be better to pretend to be a white hat/grey hat all along because it wasn't worth the trouble to try to spend the funds. Mo money mo problems
That doesn't explain why they wouldn't accept a more modest bug bounty, I haven't dug into it, but maybe they value their anonymity more (and possibly are doing quite well already from being a competent programmer in the crypto space).
But for a criminal, having control of over $600 million is overwhelming reason to try and launder at least some of it.
