Finding Planets, Stars and Constellations: Betelgeuse

Betelgeuse is a red giant star which is situated 498 light years from Earth. In the celestial sphere, it is one of the stars of the Orion constellation.

In a location situated at approximately N 44°, W 84° during the month of December around 10 pm, Betelgeuse is situated approximately at azimuth 256°, altitude 25° using the horizontal coordinate system. This means that one has to look west (azimuth 270°) and lift the head to an angle close to 25° with respect to the horizon. Its red color is clearly visible
