Bipolar Disorder - Understanding the Different Types of Bipolar Disorder

avatar

Bipolar disorder is a mental condition characterized by alternating cycles of depression and mania. A person with bipolar disorder might not be aware that they are in the manic stage. Once the episode is over, once the symptoms have subsided, they might be surprised at how their behavior affected others around them. However, later on, they might feel that others are unhelpful or even being negative.

The bipolar individual has what are called moods. These moods can range from extremely low to extremely high. And these moods can be triggered by a number of things. However, there is one common thing that seems to trigger these moods for many bipolar people. This is often referred to as the "triggers" or the "psychological triggers."

If you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, you should be aware of how important it is for you to learn how to keep well. Being well means that you are able to cope with any situation without getting overly stressed or emotional about it. It also means that you are able to function normally in most social situations. One of the biggest challenges for people who suffer from bipolar disorder is staying aware when the onset of an episode is occurring. And if you keep well informed about what symptoms to look out for, then you are far more likely to identify the signs of an upcoming episode before it happens.

It is important that those who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder are careful not to isolate themselves from friends and family. This can be a real challenge because of the fact that bipolar people tend to have problems defining who they are and where they fit in. Those diagnosed with bipolar need to be able to discuss their feelings with others as well as work through the various emotions that are associated with bipolar.

The symptoms of bipolar disorder are divided into two major categories, Manic episodes and depressive episodes. Bipolar persons can experience one or more episodes of either manic or depressive mood swings. The mood swings range from feeling extremely happy to extremely sad. The manic episodes are characterized by a greater sense of self-esteem, an inflated self-image, and increased sexual activity. On the other hand, the depressive episodes are characterized by feelings of guilt, an extreme sadness, and decreased interest in things that were once important to the bipolar.

While the symptoms of bipolar II disorders can be mild, there are times when a person will actually attempt suicide. However, this is rare and if it does occur, it is usually only in response to a genuine medical condition that requires immediate treatment. Suicidal thoughts are generally not considered acceptable by most doctors as they pose a serious threat to the bipolar patient's physical and psychological health.

Bipolar patients who have experienced one manic episode will commonly be prescribed antidepressant medication. In bipolar 1 disorder, on the other hand, the doctor will recommend treating the patient with mood stabilizers such as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and Niacinamide. These medications help in decreasing the symptoms of mania while treating the depression symptoms. However, it is important to note that even with these medications, it is possible for a bipolar 1 patient to become extremely sad or feel guilty, which may cause the patient to want to end their own life. This is why it is critical that bipolar disorder patients be constantly monitored and treated by licensed mental health professionals. With proper diagnosis, the right medication, and regular therapy sessions, bipolar disorder patients can lead normal lives.

In bipolar II disorder, there is currently no known cure. There is, however, effective medication which can be used in controlling the mood swings and the associated symptoms. However, as with bipolar I disorder, it is very important that bipolar disorder patients not attempt to suicide or take any form of drugs which can seriously affect their brain chemistry. If someone you know has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, the best course of action is to seek professional assistance from a qualified professional.

I learned a lot from reading this one. I have a friend who is bipolar. At first, I thought this is not a real sickness but I was wrong. there were times when she suddenly disappears for a long period of time then reappears all suddenly. And the mood swings are true as well.

I am glad you found my post helpful Indayclara! Unfortunately during a depressive period, the person will tend to feel depressed, less productive, lose interest in things that they previously found enjoyable, and may experience sleep disturbances.
