Bikes Without Chains Go Into Production

It has been three years since a new concept of a bike that doesn’t need a chain was introduced. This thing that initially looked more like engineers flexing is finally going into production.

The company CeramicSpeed is behind this futuristic-looking drive. When you first look at it, it may seem like complicated mechanics that would be vulnerable to outer forces its creators claim it is more durable than a classical chain drive. At the same time, it has fewer parts and not as much friction. This is because of the need for a regular derailleur as gears are changed through a telescopic chance of the axis.

Until now, the marvelous bike from CeramicSpeed gained a lot of attention but only a few had the imagination to see something like this appear for real. But, its creators went to the website Seedinvest and said that if they get at least 300,000 dollars from small investors they will start mass production. And keep in mind, the minimum you could invest is 1,000 dollars. That’s not a small sum. But for this money, you will get shares of the company the possibly, more money in the future. Currently, more than 670,000 dollars have been collected and the campaign has only started!

So, you can clearly see that the will to remove the chain from the bike is quite strong. And while there are ways to replace chains with other things usually they come with their own problems. Especially with the derailleurs. Either their integrated derailleurs are too complex and heavy or have a too low gear ratio. This engine is the ideal compromise as we still have a large mechanism at the rear wheel and some gears but the biggest sources of friction and technical problems – the chain and the derailleur – are missing.

Hopefully, the result of this should be a completely new type of innovative bike.
