Paper Press Escher Edetion

After building my press I was looking for an idea for a new shape and came across this by chance: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4679871 I liked it directly and I printed out a pair to get a better idea. Then I started making a 2D drawing, which wasn't that easy ... After several attempts I gave up because the dimensions never matched the angles. Fortunately, I was able to pull the sketch from the STL file and then only had to scale it.

Nach dem Bau meiner Presse war ich auf der Suche nach einer Idee für eine neue Form und bin zufällig auf das hier gestoßen: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4679871 das hat mir direkt gefallen und ich habe mal ein Paar ausgedruckt um eine bessere Vorstellung zu bekommen.
Dann habe ich angefangen ein 2D Zeichnung anzufertigen, was gar nicht so einfach war...
Nach diversen Versuchen habe ich es dann aufgegeben, da die Maße nie zu den Winkeln gepasst haben. Ich konnte die Skizze aber glücklicherweise aus der STL Datei ziehen und musste sie dann nur noch skalieren.

I rounded off all the sharp edges of the form, otherwise they usually only cause trouble later. I only print with a 1mm nozzle because I don't want to wait 20 hours for a print. The shape consists of 3 parts, I pray that this will make it easier to shape later. I only limited the shape to the bare essentials, as 2 contours and a bit of filling, I think 20%. With the fat nozzle, each side of the mold only took about 5 hours and the stamp took just as long.

Alle scharfen Kanten der Form habe ich abgerundet, da die sonst in der Regel später nur für Ärger sorgen. Ich drucke nur noch mit einer 1mm Düse, da ich nicht 20 Stunden auf einen Druck warten möchte. Die Form besteht aus 3 Teilen, ich bete das sich das Ausformen dadurch dann später erleichtert. Die Form an sich habe ich nur auf das nötigste beschränkt, als 2 Konturen und ein bisschen Füllung, ich glaube 20%.
Mit der Fetten Düse hat jede Seite der Form nur ungefähr 5 Std. gedauert und der Stempel nochmal genauso lange.

After printing, the real work began, which unfortunately no machine was supposed to do for me. Admittedly the contour of the gecko is quite complex and I was already worried whether the whole thing could later be saved in one piece. This was also shown during the processing, with files and later with steel wool I smoothed everything as well as possible. After that I applied clear varnish to close the coarsest areas. Then I oiled everything thinly and shook it with baby powder in a drum to really reach every spot. The surface is now really quite smooth, so nothing should actually adhere to it.

Nach dem Drucken begann dann die wirkliche Arbeit, die mir leider keine Maschine abnehmen sollte. Zugegeben ist die Kontur des Geckos ziemlich komplex und ich hatte bereits Bedenken ob sich das ganze später in einem Stück retten lässt. Das hat sich auch bei der Bearbeitung gezeigt, mit Feilen und später mit Stahlwolle habe ich alles so gut es geht geglättet. Nachdem das geschafft war habe ich Klarlack aufgebracht um die gröbsten stellen zu schließen. Anschließend habe ich dann alles dünn eingeölt und in einer Trommel mit Babypuder geschüttelt um wirklich jede Stelle zu erreichen. Die Oberfläche ist jetzt wirklich ziemlich glatt, so das eigentlich nichts daran haften dürfte.

In order to press later, of course, I also brought a pad that simultaneously holds the two molded parts together. I still had a shelf from an old shelf, which I sawed and drilled. Then a few more pieces of wood were sawn off and drilled, everything connected, the M6 nuts were just enough, the hardware stores are currently closed. Now I'll experiment a little with the paper mache again and then dare the first pressing. If everything works out I want to make panels from the joined geckos to build furniture from.

Um später zu pressen brachte ich natürlich noch eine Unterlage, die gleichzeitig die beiden Formteile zusammen hält. Ich hatte noch ein Bord aus einem alten Regal, das habe ich zurecht gesägt und gebohrt. Dann noch ein paar Hölzer abgesägt und gebohrt, alles miteinander verbunden, die M6 Muttern haben grade noch gereicht, die Baumärkte haben ja derzeit geschlossen.
Jetzt werde ich nochmal ein wenig mit dem Pappmaché experimentieren und dann die erste Pressung wagen. Wenn alles klappt möchte ich aus den zusammengefügten Geckos Platten herstellen um Möbel daraus zu bauen.
