Al enfriarse, presenta mayores requerimientos de oxigeno, de glucosa o, lo que es peor, se pueden comprometer sus signos vitales; si el neonato llega a una temperatura por debajo de los 34°c puede sufrir de hipotermia y morir.

Puede sufrir deshidratación severa, por lo cual la incubadora es un medio térmico regulado, en forma automática, por medio de un sensor de piel que controla la temperatura comparando la referencia térmica (Set Point) con la temperatura del neonato. Este mecanismo se llama servo control.

It can suffer from severe dehydration, which is why the incubator is a thermal environment automatically regulated by means of a skin sensor that controls the temperature by comparing the thermal reference (Set Point) with the newborn's temperature. This mechanism is called servo control.

• Modo transferencia de calor: La incubadora transfiere calor al recién nacido, principalmente por convección, es decir, la transferencia de calor se realiza por medio de un fluido en este caso el aire que esta en movimiento, El elemento calefactor o la unidad de calor se activa cuando recibe una señal de los sensores, tanto de piel como de ambiente; esta señales son los parámetros establecidos por el operador, cuando cae por debajo de lo seleccionado el calefactor se activa y si la temperatura es muy alta al valor, el calefactor se apaga.

• Heat transfer mode: The incubator transfers heat to the newborn, mainly by convection, i.e. the heat transfer is carried out by means of a fluid, in this case air, which is in motion. The heating element or heating unit is activated when it receives a signal from the sensors, both skin and ambient; these signals are the parameters set by the operator, when it falls below the selected value the heater is activated and if the temperature is too high to the value, the heater is turned off.

• Modo control del aire: El operador establece un valor de temperatura de control (referencia) del aire en el interior de la incubadora. El sistema de calentamiento funcionara para que la temperatura del interior alcance el valor establecido, por lo general el operador dispone de los valores medidos en un panel de visualización, en dado caso que fallen los sistemas de calefacción, la incubadora detectara la falla en la temperatura y disparara las alarmas audibles y visibles avisando al personal.

• Air control mode: The operator sets a control (reference) temperature value of the air inside the incubator. The heating system will operate to bring the temperature inside the incubator to the set value, usually the operator has the measured values on a display panel, in case of failure of the heating systems, the incubator will detect the temperature failure and trigger audible and visible alarms warning the staff.

A todas estas se preguntaran ¿que es una incubadora?, pues este aparato es un equipo electromédico, utilizado para el mantenimiento de la vida del recién nacido prematuro. Su función es proporcionar un ambiente termo-neutral; esto es alcanzado guardando la temperatura y la humedad relativa del aire dentro de niveles adecuados, permitiendo que el bebé mantenga la temperatura del cuerpo normal sin perdidas metabólicas. Cabe mencionar que estas incubadoras aíslan un 45% el ruido externo, generando el mayor silencio posible para el descanso del neonato.

Mantenimiento de la incubadora

Incubator maintenance

En esta oportunidad, se recibió la llamada al departamento de ingeniería biomédica, por parte del servicio de Neonatología, el requerimiento era que se revisase una incubadora que presentaba la alarma de falla de iré; se procedio a desmontar el panel y revisar la parte del motor que genera la corriente de aire.

On this occasion, the biomedical engineering department received a call from the Neonatology service, requesting the revision of an incubator that had a failure alarm; the panel was dismantled and the part of the motor that generates the air current was revised.

Al revisar, se observa que el fusible de la entrada al motor estaba quemado, observando este detalle, surgen dos posibles causas, la primera que una alta tensión de entrada daño el fusible, y la segunda que el embobinado del motor este en corto.

When checking, it was observed that the fuse at the motor input was blown, observing this detail, two possible causes arise, the first one that a high input voltage damaged the fuse, and the second one that the motor winding is short-circuited.

Se procedió a comprobar el funcionamiento del motor, al comprobarlo se observó que estaba en perfecto funcionamiento, lo que se puede entender como que una alta tensión de entrada dañó el fusible, se sustituyó por uno nuevo y se puso en funcionamiento durante 2 horas. Al finalizar el tiempo de observación y pasar este paso satisfactoriamente, se entregó el equipo.

We proceeded to check the operation of the motor, when we checked it was observed that it was in perfect operation, which can be understood as that a high input voltage damaged the fuse, it was replaced by a new one and it was put into operation for 2 hours. At the end of the observation time and passing this step satisfactorily, the equipment was delivered.
