Running of out space

avatar

         So it finally happened.

I ran out of space on my Ledger Nano S. I can't remember the last time I had a device that only had 156kb of storage. It almost feels like the floppy disk of 21st century.

The five apps, from left to right, are: XLM, BTC, Doge, LTC, and ADA.

To clear out some space, I would have to uninstall an app. At first, I thought about the BTC one because I don't move that particular asset very often. Turns out, if you do that, you would also have to get rid of LTC and Doge. I actually move the other assets into the wallet on regular basis, so I would rather not get rid of them.

In the end, I chose to remove the Doge app on my Nano S. It wasn't a lot, but it was enough to give some slack for future updates. This why a few months ago, I chose to get a Nano X on sale. It's nice to have everything in one place without the need to juggle all the apps.

At 1.8Mb, the Nano X is hardly a giant. It reminds me of the 3 1/2 inch floppies. I have 9 apps on there with plenty of room to space. As much as I would like to say that's plenty, that might not be true in the future.

It seems unlikely that I will have many more apps installed on my Nano X than I currently do, but I guess time will tell. I mean, I haven't bothered with the ETH app because I haven't bought any in a long time. Diversifying is not bad in itself, but it does dilute funds into multiple assets which can hurt gains. So, I guess the trick is finding the right balance.

I never bought one, so it's amusing to read how small they are.

Yeah. It's pretty amazing how tiny they are and how much more security they provide.

I remember the floppy disks, how crazy. Now you can store everything in one place

The storage still isn't very big, but it's not like they need to be huge for their purposes.

It's still useful. Just not as convenient.

I started out with the S, but recently got an X. They make a good primary/backup set, especially since the X relies on a battery. You can remove and re-add apps without putting your assets at risk. Which I did until I got the X.

Yeah that's my set up with the primary and backup.

I was playing around with my Nano X some more yesterday. There is still so much I need to learn about it. I am pretty impressed with it so far. Plus the price was great, so I can't complain at all! That is crazy how little storage they actually have.

I never used a Ledger wallet so dont know how it works. I thought that there is an option for unlimited but that's not the case. Thanks for sharing this info.

You can store "unlimited" amount of asset. But, you can only access as many as the interface allows at a given time.
