Got a new hardware wallet

avatar

Guess what? It's here! Well, it's been here for a few days, but you know.

That's the Nano X I talked about in a previous post. I still retained my old Nano S as a backup access point. As with any new devices, I had to do the setup process and whatnot.

Like I said before, the device has its own built-in battery reserve for times when power is down. This may be useful if you choose to use the mobile app. I don't see myself connecting my Ledger to my phone, but it can be useful in a pinch.

The nice thing about the Nano X is that I don't have to juggle apps like I have to do on the Nano S. It's kind of handy. Of course, this means I would have to keep both devices updated from time to time.

From the above screenshot, you don't see VET or ADA because they have not integrated with Ledger Live yet. At some point, I hope those become part of the interface for easier organization.

Like the Nano S, the X model is not meant for mining. What do I mean by that? This means it's not meant for many microtransactions, which slow down your syncing. I have actually had that issue with my S a while ago when I used to move small amounts on regular basis from faucets. The fix is not difficult, but it takes time. You can read more on Ledger's own website on the matter.

If you are planning on holding on some crypto for the long haul, a hardware wallet might be the best way to go. Be sure to back up your recovery words and keep them safe. If your device broke, you could restore your wallet on a new device. If you lost your recovery phrase, better start moving your funds out while you still have access. Then, initialize a new wallet and keep the new words.

Not bad for a Black Friday purchase. It was 40% off, so it was worth it.

40% off is nice, they are not on sale often. I'm concerned about buying directly from Ledger's website as they recently leaked everyone's private information.

It was either that or Amazon.

Amazon is safer and where I got mine, as long as you buy direct. Only because they recently got hacked. I would not take a chance buying it anywhere but directly from them.

Makes sense. Well, I made my move, but hopefully others can take this tidbit and make their own informed decisions.

That's the reason why I did not buy it over my credentials. Not interested in getting even more shit mails.

This has always been in my action item for a long time. Mobile wallets are handy but yeah hardware wallets are more secure. I might target purchasing one in 2021 as my crypto assets grow.

It's definitely a good idea especially when the balance in your wallet isn't actively being traded.

For coins like Hive, which needs staking, can they still be stored on these devices ? Even ADA has staking and ETH also.

I got 3 different Ledgers.
But...
Ledger is so boring. Very boring.
And no innovation for so many years.

I'm thrilled waiting for something much more modern. And (possibly) more secure for long term hodling.
Look at this

HASHWallet

Just take a look:
https://gethashwallet.com/

Isn't this cool ?

That does look interesting!

I will keep an eye out on those. Would like to see market feedback when they roll out.

Besides the cool look, it also has so many new inside. A lot more hacker proof. And more.
Make sure you read all the tech details.

In fact features were what made me so exited about it. Not the sleek design.

I'm pretty sold on the non-programmable device part.

From the roadmap, it doesn't look like the first batch will be out until next summer.

So, they are supposedly on alpha tests right now.

Yes this about the only disappointment I got. It was sheduled for first deliveries this month, December 2020. Not long ago they postponed all to 2021

I have put several times in question if getting one would be of any use at the moment for me, but then I figured... bah... eventually they will get a new model and some kind of "promotion" will get me a free one, just like I got the S model.

At least you have one, ya?

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, they are the coolest thing to have and use in front of everyone. Everyone seriously not understand crypto enough to start a masternode should have one.

I will get one eventually... I just know it. Just needs to be free 😍

You also have this tab with you so that you can use the ledger as a "keychain". Honestly, did you know right away how to use it?

Hope my translation won't kill the message ^^

I get the gist of using a Ledger. As for knowing everything, I'm going to go with a no.

Good luck with this. I have one but never used it haha. Never trusted myself with it, thought I would lose it!

I really feel this is an item you'd need at least two to make sure you aren't temporarily locked out due to unforeseen circumstances.

Man, I really need to bite the bullet and purchase one of these. I haven't really had the spare cash to just spend one, but I know I am going to be kicking myself if I don't have one and my funds end up getting lost or something. It is just the smart move.

Last year I was contemplating the same purchase for a while until the deal was gone.
And this year I totally missed black Friday as a whole.
But the more I get immersed into crypto the more the nano X seems like a good investment. Thanks for sharing your own take/experience on it.

It's easier to see the panel than the S. Mine needs a magnifying glass, but then again my eyes are shit.

I hadn't thought about that point. But yeah, the font and screen are better for reading than the S.

Yeah I still have the Nano S the going back and forth on the apps are pretty annoying.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I wanted an upgrade.

It's a bit time consuming to delete and install app just to manage another asset that's not on your default 6.
