My first thesis ever - ''Le mouchard acoustique'' - The acoustic snitch ! [PART 1]

I always wanted to share my thesis to the blockchain. I'm glad I finally found time to check my old CDs to find all the information about that.

So, my first education was related to maintenance of computer equipment. I've got my diploma in Algeria, in a city called Mascara. That was completely in French. So, I'll try to share my original work and translate it. I could choose many topics related to the computer, but I learned enough about each part of it, and I wasn't interested in digging deeper in that. Being a music lover and because I didn't know enough about how the sound from the pc is working, I decided to choose a topic related to the sound.

So, along with my friend who was very good in electronics, we decided to write about ''The acoustic snitch'', it's a device that can recognize the sound and turn on the LED ( light-emitting diode ). There are some lights in buildings working with the same principle. You may turn them on and off by a simple clap.

Objective and introduction :


Objective :


As a physical phenomenon, the sound is part of our daily life. It is sometimes a pleasure (music, atmosphere, etc.) and sometimes a constraint, like a nuisance (work, neighborhood noise, urban environment, etc.).

The sound is everywhere. Discovering it means taking an interest in fields as diverse as artistic creation, medical research, materials, craftsmanship and town planning.

Phénomène physique, le son fais partie de notre vie quotidienne. C’est parfois un plaisir (music, ambiance, etc.) et parfois une contrainte, comme une nuisance (travail, bruit de voisinage, environnement urbain, etc.).
Le son est partout. Partir à sa découverte, c’est s’intéresser a des domaines aussi divers que la création artistique, la recherche médicale, les matériaux, l’artisanat ou l’urbanisme.

Introduction :


The theme of the dissertation is the acoustic snitch and the circuit that triggers any pair of devices using only acoustic signals, such as clapping.

This choice tells us that the acoustic signals have real power which can be transformed into an electric current of different intensities, which shows us that there is information.

Le thème du mémoire c’est le mouchard acoustique et le circuit qui permet de déclencher n’importe qu’elle appareille en utilisant seulement des signaux acoustiques comme l’applaudissement. Ce choix nous indique que les signaux acoustiques ont une puissance réelle qui peut se transformer en un courant électrique de différentes intensités ce qui nous démontre qu’il existe des informations.

Everywhere present the sound constitutes a vast field of transversal study, which extends from fundamental physics to the most advanced technologies in recording, passes by the exploration of the auditory system, the perception of the sound according to the times, the societies , social circles, or even the history of music. Anyone who broaches the subject is therefore confronted with an immense literature, which is often difficult for non-specialists to access. At the same time, the multiplication of guides, manuals, introductory books to the different aspects of sound, sound insulation, choice of hi-fi equipment, sound recording… testifies to the growing interest of the public for these questions to which it is without. ceases confronted.

Partout présent le son constitue un vaste domaine d’étude transversal qui s’étend de la physique fondamentale aux technologies les plus pointues en matière d’enregistrement, passe par l’exploration du système auditif, la perception du son selon les époques, les sociétés, les milieux sociaux, ou encore l’histoire de la musique. Quiconque aborde le sujet se trouve donc confronté à une immense littérature dont l’accès s’avère souvent difficile pour les non-spécialistes. Parallèlement, la multiplication de guides, manuels, ouvrages d’initiation aux différents aspects du son, isolation phonique, choix d’un matériel hi fi, prise de son… témoigne de l’intérêt croissant du grand public pour ces questions auxquelles il est sans cesse confronté.

For several years, the work on the sound has considered it more particularly from the point of view of its effects. The development of environmental acoustics, as well as industrial acoustics, reflects the growing interest in the hearing health of the public.

Les recherches les plus récentes en acoustique sur l’émission, la propagation des sons et leurs rapports avec la matière, ont rendu possibles nombre d’applications, tant dans le quotidien que dans des domaines aussi divers que la médecine ou l’étude des fonds marins. Depuis plusieurs années, les travaux sur le son l’envisagent plus particulièrement du point de vue de ses effets. Le développement de l’acoustique environnementale, ainsi que de l’acoustique industrielle, rendent compte de l’intérêt croissant pour la santé auditive du public.

Computing, the development of digital technology and the tremendous technical progress in the field of recording and broadcasting have made sound an increasingly manipulable material. The work on voice synthesis is an illustration of this. In fact, researchers and practitioners are increasingly approaching sound as a material and no longer just as a sign. Concrete music was first interested in sound as a full-fledged material . A new sensitivity to sound, elevated to the rank of aesthetic criteria, has thus developed, modifying the perception of musical works.

L’informatique, le développement du numérique et les formidables progrès techniques dans le domaine de l’enregistrement et de la diffusion ont fait du son une matière de plus en plus manipulable. Les travaux sur la synthèse vocale en sont une illustration. De fait, chercheurs et praticiens abordent de plus en plus le son en tant que matière et non plus seulement comme signe. La musique concrète s’est la première intéressée au son comme matière à part entière. Une nouvelle sensibilité au son, élevé au rang de critère esthétique, s’est ainsi développée, modifiant la perception des œuvres musicales.

2. Definition of the word ''snitch'':


2.1 Common name - (snitch):

2.1.1 : The one who denounces someone to the parental or school authority or to any authority.

  • Synonym : protractor (informer), cockroach(name-calling).

2.1.2 : Person who spies for the police and reports to the police.

  • Synonym : spy.

2.2 : Specific meaning :

2.2.1 : Small, discreet opening (in a door) allowing to see without being seen.

  • Synonym : peephole.

2.2.2 : Technical :

Technical control device that records data on speed, mileage, travel time (of a vehicle).

  • Synonym : controller.

2.2.3 : Computer science :

Computer activity monitoring software.

2 Définition du mot mouchard :
2.1. Nom commun - masculin, féminin (moucharde, mouchards, mouchardes) :
2.1.1 : Celui qui dénonce quelqu'un auprès de l'autorité parentale ou scolaire ou d'une quelconque autorité.
Synonyme : cafard, rapporteur
2.1.2 : Personne qui espionne pour la police et dénonce à la police.
Synonyme : indic.

2.2. Signification particulière :
2.2.1 : Petite ouverture discrète (dans une porte) permettant de voir sans être vu.
Synonyme : judas.
2.2.2. Technique :
Appareil Technique de contrôle qui enregistre des données de vitesse, de kilométrage, de temps de circulation (d'un véhicule).
Synonyme : contrôleur.
2.2.3. Informatique :
Logicielle de surveillance des activités informatiques.


But for the thesis I am taking into consideration the second technical definition of the snitch. This acoustic snitch is considered to be a sound wave sensitive control device. It can be used as an alarm in an important construction or in sensitive points.

Mais pour le mémoire je prends en considération la deuxième définition technique du mouchard comme un nom masculin. Ce mouchard acoustique est considéré comme un appareil de contrôle sensible aux ondes sonores. On peut l’utiliser comme une alarme dans une construction importante ou dans des points sensibles.
