CRISPR-Cas in Rapid, Molecular Diagnostics

Over the last 3 years more and more #diagnostic approaches were presented using the #CRISPR-Cas-system. Today, there are many methodological variants combining CRISPR-Cas and #LateralFlow for ultrasensitive, highly-specific and field-applicable diagnostics where it is needed.

#SHERLOCK #DETECTR #iSCAN #FELUDA #CASLFA #CONAN #VIGILANT are just a few names, which have to be mentioned here.

All of these techniques have the potential to be used outside of specialized laboratories. Check out an interesting paper from Mark J. Osborn and colleagues from the Medical School of the University of Minnesota. They combined #isothermalAmplification (#RPA) with an amplicon binding assay containing a biotinylated dead #Cas9 followed by a Lateral Flow Assay, using the Milenia #HybriDetect.

The authors were able to detect the #COVID-19 causing agent #SARS-CoV-2 with an excellent specificity. Here is the Link to the open access paper:
