Fungibility and Applications, a freewrite

"There's something wrong with the interface. I can't get it to fit quite right."

Perhaps the interface is malfunctioning

"Malfunctioning? Yeah it's not the right interface for this application."

What app?

"What's App? You mean to say 'What's up?' Is something up?"

I'm up!!! So excited about tonight! What are you going to wear?

"I was planning to wear this, but the interface is malfunctioning.

You're going to wear an app to your graduation? This I gotta see!

"Huh? No I was going to wear this dress that I am making! What is wrong with you?

I thought your interface wasn't fitting, not the dress. What's wrong with the dress? It looks almost done.

"THE INTERFACE IS NOT FITTING CORRECTLY. Maybe I should have used a fusible one.

Fusible? You mean fungible?

"Is there a fungible interface? What even is that?

I don't know. You brought it up.

This is my entry to @mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is interface.

What can I say? I'm an anachronism, and am often flummoxed by new-fangled technical vocabulary and acronyms. For instance, what does hodl mean?

Let's head back in time, to when men were men and women were women and things were easier to understand. Or was that just me?

Thank you for reading my freewrite about old meanings and new.

No, it's not just you. I often have to look up acronyms.
Apparently, hodl was a mistype by some guy in a chatroom and came to mean hold on for dear life.... but don't quote me.

That makes great sense, so I'm going with that. Thanks for the explanation, and for reading every word of my post!

Your freewrites are so fun, so full of surprises.
You are the master of the unexpected, and the fresh twist.

I still have some of this stuff in my sewing bins!
I've never used it--too intimidating for me. I've put in one zipper. By hand. No using the zipper attachment on the machine. Nor the buttonhole attachment. I sew buttonholes by hand.
(No, I don't sew. Not really. Just some kid costumes for Halloween, and some mending.)

Interfacing is an extra layer of fabric that is sewn into your garment. It appears in collars, facings, button plackets, and other spots in the garment that need a bit of support and shaping.

When I first read the prompt, I remembered interfacing from back in the day when I made a lot of my own clothes. I made jackets, slacks, button down shirts, all sorts of things that required interfacing. But I wasn't 100% certain interfacing was the right word for the stuff I used to stiffen parts of clothing. I had to look it up. My having to look it up, and finding that primary definitions of interface were technology related, gave me the idea for the story, which then wrote itself. Thanks for reading, commenting and just being you! I like this one. I have been spotty on liking my freewrites for a while now. Why is it that the ones I like the most earn next to nothing?!

Mark Twain thought his best novel by far was the one about Joan of Arc
Nobody today has heard of it...
"The Nutcracker" was the least favorite (most disliked!) composition of Tchaikovsky.

He said so in no uncertain terms: "The ballet is infinitely worse than Sleeping Beauty, of this I'm sure." This was after he turned down the original commission and needed to be persuaded.
Few pieces of classical music have appeared so often in pop culture.

There is no accounting for taste!
I love all your freewrites.
And now you have SEWING and tailoring to add to your list of accomplishments.
I am utterly in awe of you!
Math brains, musical talent, singing, acting, cooking, running a restaurant, SEWING, gardening, herbal knowledge, poetry -
Is there anything you're not super-good at???
