An artifact at the Lamuri site, in Aceh-Sumatra.

This site is known as the Lamuri site. An ancient Islamic kingdom that was established in the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. Today in Aceh Besar region, in Aceh.

According to the dates found at the site location, this kingdom achieved its glory in the 15th century.

In front of the mainland are the waters of the Malacca Strait, a shipping route very famous in the maritime era.

With two beautiful bays for its harbor, Lamuri is a maritime kingdom that plays an important role in trade and islamization.

The landscape chosen for the government capital is unique. The landscape, which is hilly, is not fertile land for all plants like most other places on the island. Although rainfall is no different from other places in tropical Sumatra, but because of the composition of the land dominated by limestone, this place is fairly dry on its surface.

The view on the east side of the site where the arid hills in the dry season are seen.

The weather in the dry season is hotter than elsewhere. Remind the situation in the desert. Shrubs and thorny trees that can protect themselves with thorns are seen growing freely. But, black plums (Aceh: Jambe Kleng; Syzygium cumini) that are not thorny and produce delicious fruit are spread everywhere as a blessing from this place. Coconut takes a position in the valleys that are not so wide near the coast.

The mainstay of this kingdom is none other than the bay and harbor which are very suitable for ships as well as sailors. This kingdom takes care of the relationship between the interior of Aceh which is rich in valuable commodities and traders who come from across the sea.

A place now inhabited by silence with thousands of artifacts scattered on the surface of the land, and who knows how many unknowns have been deposited in it, is undoubtedly a busy meeting place for people from various parts of the world in the past, from East and West.

Unfortunately, archaeological and scientific research and conservation carried out for this maritime historical site are lacking, due to lack of funds.
