Sir Wilfred Harrington the Third - #freewrite - Prompt 'Blue Velvet'

The place where they lived had its own soul, it’s own actors, and its own story, which seeped into every crevice of every stone in every cobbled street. With its rolling hills, and its views across the ocean, Whale Harbour was the most glorious place in the whole world; and Sir Wilfred Harrington the third knew this with every panting, drooling breath in his little, doggy body.

“Come on Sir Wilfred! Keep up!” Molly laughed teasingly, her golden hair blowing wildly in the wind. Together they dashed across the rocks and then up along the walkway which edged beside sheer rocky cliffs, toward home. Below them seagulls rode the slip streams, circling and shrieking. Life was good for Sir Wilfred and Molly; but little did they know what was waiting for them up ahead…

Sir Wilfred was surprised to find Mary-May - his girlfriend, waiting for him on the porch. She had a worried expression on her face that made her dark whiskers twitch.

“What’s wrong darling?” Wilfred asked.

“It’s Papa!” Mary–May snuffled. “Something strange has happened to Pappa and I don’t know what to do!”

“Righto, leave it to me!” Sir Wilfred replied and darted into the cottage.

By this time Molly had changed out of her running shorts into her favourite long, blue velvet skirt and was about to prepare dinner. Sir Wilfred grabbed the hem of her skirt and pulled hard, drawing Molly toward the door. Mary–May ran about barking encouragement.

“What’s this all about? You will put holes in my skirt! Stop it!” Molly scowled.

But the two little dogs persisted and Molly soon realized with all the barking and tugging that something was wrong and that she needed to co-operate. Together, the three friends raced up the hill toward Pappa’s cottage with Sir Wilfred leading the way.
