Weird Life on A Flat Earth.

How would be living on a flat EARTH?

Long long ago our ancestors used to believe that the Earth is flat and there's no end to it. But, then they discovered that the Earth is round. It was the Greeks who first discovered it. And after coming to this modern age we know the actual shape of the Earth. We know that earth is round but, the Earth is approximately spherical, but there is a slight flattening towards the poles. It looks like an oblate spheroid: flattened like an orange. The question may have appeared in your mind that who was it exactly that discovered Earth is round and when was it. Well, I have something for you from a website named StarChild.

Question:

Who figured out the Earth is round?

Answer:

It has actually been known that the Earth was round since the time of the ancient Greeks. I believe that it was Pythagoras who first proposed that the Earth was round sometime around 500 B.C. As I recall, he based his idea on the fact that he showed the Moon must be round by observing the shape of the terminator (the line between the part of the Moon in light and the part of the Moon in the dark) as it moved through its orbital cycle. Pythagoras reasoned that if the Moon was round, then the Earth must be round as well. After that, sometime between 500 B.C. and 430 B.C., a fellow called Anaxagoras determined the true cause of solar and lunar eclipses - and then the shape of the Earth's shadow on the Moon during a lunar eclipse was also used as evidence that the Earth was round.
Around 350 BC, the great Aristotle declared that the Earth was a sphere (based on observations he made about which constellations you could see in the sky as you traveled further and further away from the equator) and during the next hundred years or so, Aristarchus and Eratosthenes actually measured the size of the Earth!

But, while we are living in this modern age, humans have put their footsteps on the surface of the moon, we are also preparing to go and live on another planet (Mars), we have hundreds or maybe thousands of satellites always watching over the Earth and all that scientific proofs that Earth is round. There are still some people who believe that Earth is a flat surface. I believe everyone has their own reason to believe something and I respect it. But, isn't it obvious that how the earth is? They have their own logic about it and we have our own. And in this post, I'll discuss it. That how our life would be if we were living on a flat Earth? Good or Weird?

I was also interested in this topic and I was searching on the internet about it and then I found this amazing website named LIVESCIENCCE. And they presented some pretty good points about it. I'm adding them below directly from the website.

  • 1. Say goodbye to gravity (at least as we know it)

  • 2. It would certainly clear the atmosphere

  • 3. Cloudy with a chance of sideways rain

  • 4. We would all get lost

  • 5. Some journeys would take forever

  • 6. No more auroras and we'd all be roasted

  • 7. We'd all have to share the same night sky

  • 8. Hurricanes would be a thing of the past

I've only used the titles/main topics here from the website. But, some of them may be still not clear to you and for that, you can visit the website from where I myself learned about the facts. This website also provides a lot of other scientifical information and they can be a help to you.

I'll meet you again in a new post with something more interesting and informative.

Thank You.

The idea that the earth was somehow a perfect Cartesian plane could not have existed before Rene Descartes (1596-1650). So the oft repeated idea that everyone before Galileo (1564-1642) thought the world was flat is absurd.

You are correct that, if the world was a Cartesian plane--an idea that post-dates Galileo--then the world would be really strange.

It is interesting that you mentioned gravity. If one had a situation where a mysterious force that pulled matter toward the center of the sphere, aka the center of gravity, then the surface of the sphere would have properties associated with flatness.

Unfortunately, there are people who want to create a conflict where there isn't a need for conflict. Sadly, there are also people on this sphere who want to take any contrived conflict on this sphere to generate contention.
