Welcome to the uncanny valley. 👻

Technology is evolving very rapidly. Every other day, we learn about new technology adaption in human life. From TV to smart phone to chat GPT. You name them and you will find them into our part of life. However each technological advancement co.es up with their own pros and cons. It is good to remember that, there are two sides to technological advancement because every innovation brings both significant benefits which is related efficiency, connection, health and serious drawbacks like of job loss, privacy issues, social isolation, new dangers etc. While science is taking all the credit for the advancement, but somewhere human are responsible for creating a "double-edged sword" where progress in one area often causes unforeseen problems or trade-offs in human values, the environment, or societal structures, requiring constant adaptation and ethical consideration. #Deepfake is one such tech revolution which is in news more for their wrong reasons.

AI is a powerful tool, but when misused, it becomes a weapon of digital harm

Ever since #deepfake comes into picture, I always heard about its misuse then its uses. Deepfakes technology works on a very realistic way. The technology can superimpose one person's face onto another's body, alter facial expressions, synthesize realistic speech, or create entirely new videos & audio. This has already caused a lot of stories among the general public. First time, I learned about this technology was during our general election. The #deepfake technology was widely used creating fake videos of politicians or public figure to sway public opinion or influence elections. Later on, a significant portion of deepfake content involves creating fake explicit material, disproportionately targeting women. Then again, the technology was fraudently used by scammers. The #Scammers use #deepfakes to create convincing fake audio/video to trick victims into transferring money, sharing data, or approving fraudulent transactions, often by cloning voices and faces from social media. Learning about all these leads us to make a negative impression of the technology.

From sci-fi concept to everyday reality

Honestly speaking there is always something bad that we get too see from #deepfake. But we never care or even looked at its positive side. Can the #deepfake technology ever been used for right cause? The question keeps lingering on many people mind. But as said before every technology has two aspect so does #deepfake. The issue is to put it into proper usage. While often feared for misinformation, deepfake technology is a boon for boosting creativity, accessibility, and personalized experiences. The immediate sector to make use were the entertainment industry.

Filmmakers can convincingly make actors appear younger or older for continuity across different time periods within a film without extensive makeup. The technology can alter an actor's mouth movements to match dialogue in different languages, allowing for more authentic and immersive international dubbing.

Simultaneously, the technology can also be used in education sector. Deepfakes in education can create immersive learning via virtual tutors and historical reenactments, personalize content (e.g., language translation), help students understand AI ethics, and even allow educators to create content more comfortably.

Let's champion a safer digital space.

The crux is how we want to use the technology is more important. There could be ample ways, the deepfake can be utilized in defense or healthcare. But it needs to be supervised correctly. Deepfakes offer powerful tools for content creation and personalized assistance, but their benefits hinge on responsible frameworks and ethical use to counter their potential for harm.

It is a common belief that people often consider evil before doing good, because evil seems easier and offers instant gratification, while goodness is more difficult and involves doubt and suspicion, but in the end, goodness always triumphs, giving self-confidence and comfort.

The same theory applies with Deepfake. We have seen the evil, but the goodness is yet to come.

In good faith - Peace!!

As you rightly say, the key lies in how we use the tools. For example, fire is necessary, but it can be disastrous if we don't use it with proper control.

Deep fakes scare the crap out of me. They have the potential to destroy lives and once the damage is done it is almost impossible to undo it. Even when people know it was a fake.

The down side of this innovation seems to be more than the upside of it but in any way it is good if it will be used positively than the other way. Good to read from you
