WHY OUR PARENTS' "BETTER DAYS" WEREN'T ACTUALLY BETTER

Well, was there ever "the best era"? I would say no. In time past, inasmuch as people say things were better, using Nigeria as a case study, I beg to differ. We weren't here in time past, but based on history, we've heard that many of our parents had opportunities to pick jobs, but most of them refused; most didn't go to school either. What does that imply? It was the best option for them at the time. It got to the time where school was mandatory because it was the only way one could get the best out of living, but wasn't it too late for most? Of course.

So, will you call that the best era for them? I guess not, because, from all indications, they didn't live up to their potential, either due to ignorance or a lack of enlightenment. Now, bring it to the present day. We have all the jobs and all the knowledge of how to get things done, but where is the access to those jobs? The same education that cost our parents a better living is the same thing we're facing. Theirs was a case of no school, no good jobs; ours is now a case of you got school but can't get hired or won't get hired. You graduate with good grades; it's a problem in our time. You graduate with bad grades; it's still a problem. You don't even go to school; in most cases, it's a problem too. All in our era. I'd even say the older generation had a better chance of becoming than we do. What we can hold on to now, in most cases, is the advent of technology, which has lessened the weight of things for this generation, but even at that, where are the jobs, and how many people can do tech?

Now, let's move to politics a bit, have you noticed it's a case of rinse and repeat as regards politics since the past? We see the same names, same faces or even same names, different faces, more like it's been a family affair. Those we ruled in the past have either set up sons or siblings to take over after them, and automatically, you get to see similar policies from the past in the present, which has so far made things the same for ages now because it's an ideology passed from father to son or siblings, and it's a merry-go-round. So tell me, has there ever been "the best era"?

Is it on the economy? Since there was a time that the naira was stronger than the dollar, has there been a significant part of the economy from then till now that has stood out that can be pointed to as someone good? It's just been a charade to make things seem better, but it has never gotten better.

It's just a case of indirect slavery where you give people jobs that never allow them to grow, but make them feel they're there and then not giving them the chance to explore more options by making them come to work for 35 years, giving them peanuts till they get used to it and think that's the only option for them, thereby stunting their growth or potential.

I dare say there hasn't been a better era. Opportunities have always been there, but access has been a major problem, and those who have it have been stumbling blocks for most from time past till present day.

Every era comes with its difficulties.
In those days, we claim we were being exploited by our colonial masters, now who is exploiting who? We humans are just beings without clear directions, we create problems and turn solution finding to a mission.
