From Fresh to Fatal: The Impact of Chemical-Based Farming

There is a limit to what technology can achieve, though technology makes farming systems easier and less stressful but the harm is huge, we no longer eat fresh foods, and our products are based on chemicals which are very dangerous to our health.

Most farmers especially commercial farming are now making use of too much fertilizers which reduces the nutrients we are getting from our food products, people now plant maize without rainfall, and vegetables are now taking a week to germinate, all in the name of too many chemicals used on it.

We can no longer boast of having fresh food directly from the farm without thinking twice, what is wrong with our old farming system? where we eat fresh foods and fruits, our farmland can no longer produce healthy plants because of too much fertilizer in the land.

Though we can no longer blame the farmers who depend solely on technology, the more fertile your product is the more you entice more buyers, people no longer go for nutrients we are after quantity and not quality, we can no longer afford quality food again, we rather go for what is available at the moment which limits our well being

Most of the food we are eating today is the cause of our problems, they are the ones causing damage to our bodies, I heard a story where a farmer added formalin to his farm products for them to grow well, and the formalin I know is the injection used in embalming dead bodies, though it may give the best results to the farmers but what of the people consuming it? This is causing damage to our body system due to our ignorance.

I was reading on social media today when I came across a post that people no longer soak cassava for days to produce fufu, fufu is one of Nigerian's native foods, it is produced from fermented cassava, and now people are adding detergent for it to soak on time, this process would only last for a day instead of five days, I believe we know what damage detergent can cause to our body, this is part of the problem we are having without knowing.

We are paying dearly for what technology is causing in this generation, there are diseases contracted from the food we are producing, in the olden days food poisoning was never rampant the way we are experiencing it now, our forefathers took time to produce a well suitable raw food for us without causing any harm to the body.

I am not saying technology is bad but we should limit the way we misuse most opportunities we have, technology eases our stress in terms of large farming, we can use modern tools in our farming system but not add chemicals in others to produce foods, we are now living on chemicals not food which was not supposed to be so, we must prioritize each other well being and not to be selfish because of our own self-interest and put other people's life in danger.

In my opinion, I would suggest we should go back to the olden days method of farming without adding chemicals to our farm products. This is my response to this episode of the hivelearners community prompt of #hl-w153e2 which the topic is tagged TECHNOLOGY AND PROFITS

There are people who are playing with people's health for more profit and this thing is very wrong, without good health no one can live a good life.

Especially when it comes to making money, people can go extra mile without considering other people's wellbeing

Technology makes farming systems the best so far even though it's not recommended in some aspects of life. the need for fertilizers is just to make food available to the general populace. if not because of technonoly, food wouldn't be in circulation just like the way it is right now.

Some of these people are just so concerned about making gains that they don't consider the adverse effect to human health. These days, it's scary to purchase supposedly organic, 'fresh out of the farm' foods. We need to review all these. We can't toy with what goes in our bodies.

The over-reliance on chemical based farming is alarming, it harm our health and also damages the soil and the environment, maybe we should just go back to our sustainable and organic farming practices that prioritize quality. Our well-being/health depend on it.

You made a good point. Technology helps farming, but using too many chemicals in our food is dangerous. We need to find a way to grow food naturally while still making farming easier. Our health should always come first. Thanks for sharing.

They say if nature can't make it then it's not the best
Chemicals will only do what it can but nature will remain the best

That is what we expected not until technology came into the picture and people started to misuse the opportunity
