Going to a higher institution for studies is now beyond just wanting your future to be better or wanting to become a professional in a particular field of your fancy. In my country, it is a way of life.

Just like we go through childhood, adolescence, and puberty, we also go through the university. The absence of this could spell doom for the person.

As it is now, if you are a Nigerian and you are working in the same field you studied, know that you are among the privileged few. I have no idea if that is how it is in other countries as well, but down here all people need is the certificate. What you actually studied is not usually the problem as you can be trained to do just about whatever. But then, why ask for the certificate in the first place?

But as it stands, it is very important so we have to work our butts off to acquire it so that we can show it to employers who will decide if it is good enough for them to consider us.

Well, even though I studied a professional course, I am one of those that are doing something totally unrelated to our course of study. And what am I studying? Electrical Engineering.

Yeah!

E.E! Power!!!

We are usually seen as the noisemakers in the school, but we are also seen as the one of the most brilliant. I love the course so much because it has exposed so many things to me about electricity, many things I had no idea about prior to my gaining admission.

Electrical engineers are responsible for a lot more than what people give them credit for. It actually goes way beyond just laying out cables and making sure two live wires do not kiss. Electrical engineering can be found in telecommunication, from your network providers to your cable TV, that is electrical engineering. We see it even in machines and motors. Don’t even get me started on our homes. And the most personal of all, our bodies.

You do know we have electricity in our bodies right? But if it’s faulty, please do not call an engineer. Call a doctor.

As you can see, electricity is in everything we do. It is so important to our daily life that nothing at all can be done without it. it is just like the internet, it is going nowhere. Instead, people are working night and day to look for more efficient and stable methods of generating it.

And now that petrol cars are being phased out in favor of battery-powered cars, a time would come things like gas and PMS would be a thing of the past. It only gets better. In our homes, almost everything we use runs on electricity. If you lack power for an extended period of time, you will really feel it. That is just to tell you how we have come to rely on it.

While studying the course, as you progress higher, you get to select what part of Electrical Engineering you want to study. You have Power (dealing mostly with the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and wiring), you have telecommunications (satellites, masts, network providers), and there is also instrumentation (mostly the part where all the measurements and calculations are done with really complex instruments).

I am looking to go to Power.

It is a beautiful course, for real, just that the education system in my country is not really encouraging at all. But what are we to do? After all, this is a country where a graduate of Electrical Engineering would still have to do apprentice under an engineer before he can make a stand for himself. Was everything he was taught in school for show?

It is tiring, truly, but what are we to do?

Things like that don’t stop me though. I know what I want and I am going after it. I will be done with this course soon, although I am hoping I won’t have to use the certificate seeing as I have already started building a career around my writing, I am hoping to grow in this particular field.

No knowledge gained is ever lost. It still helps me in my daily life, it can be handy like fixing basic electrical faults in the house, troubleshooting broken appliances, and what have you. Having me in the house saves a lot of money that could have gone to electricians and engineers. And that is something I am grateful for.

So, my dear friend, this is the course I am studying and this is how it affects the world at large. We are one of the most important professions on earth, right after medical doctors. If not that theirs was literally life and death, we would have kicked them out since. I am not saying other courses are not important, of course, they are. I am just saying that E.E is the best.

I am just saying that E.E is the best.

LOL. I can relate, I hear this kind of stuff a lot during college and a even at work. If you mean E.E. as in Electronics Engineering then I agree with you. 😍

I remember a Math professor of mine who said that there are only two types of engineers - Civil Engineers and the Others. His reasoning is that he is a Civil Engineer that is why he put his profession on top of the list. 😁

In a way, I understand the reasoning behind this. Schools wanted to motivate their students by making them believe they are the best out of all the other courses. I've seen both positive and negative effects of this motivational thinking.

Btw, I love how you structured your article. It is very clear and easy to understand.

Hehe...
It's definitely electrical engineering. Most engineers like to brag about their department, I think it's a default setting😂
We just can't help it.

Thank you for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I can relate about it that is why I enjoyed reading it. I can't help but smile as I read it. It reminds me about my college days. 😁
