I Just Want To Be Comfortable...

We all know of it. We all have been guilty of indulging in it at one time or the other in our lives. And this is because it is that one space or time when we feel that we have everything under control and absolutely nothing could go wrong.

Yeah, we all know what I’m talking about here. And it’s none other than our comfort zones.

I don’t think there is a need to say much when it comes to comfort zones, because I believe it is a concept majority of us are familiar with. And for those who truly don’t know, there’s no harm in a quick Google search. As a matter of fact, I will suggest you run one before you read further.

2dk2RRM2dZ8gKjXsrozapsD83FxL3Xbyyi5LFttAhrXxr16mCe4arfLHA37mQtCuynkak9C9VAxm3nacdB7gLmLiZLuYVhHeNsRgxL6WKJoam3hs2B7ZLAp2jwaLFEwoAbLKzAfpv2DhtyvHbJunTbU58RMbxtkvefNK4qj8EA.png

The comfort zone is one of the most dangerous places a person can ever be, this is because it can be very deceiving. Making us believe we have everything under control, when in reality what we do have under control is only a tiny fraction. And that one is not even as under control as we might think.

When you are in your comfort zone, you are relaxed about quite a lot of things. You are not striving to be better or to do better because either you believe you have achieved all there is to achieve, or you believe that you have gone as far as you can and there’s no other way you can succeed. It will make you believe you are actually happy where you are, and therefore there will be no need for further growth.

Yes, the comfort zone kills growth faster than anything else because you won’t even bother to try anything out. You’ll just conclude. And then, anything at all, any form of work that will involve getting you out of that zone, will be met with great criticism and disapproval. And if care is not taken, that’s how it will be for every opportunity that comes your way, until time eventually goes and the eyes become clear.

That’s one eventuality about comfort zones, they never last forever. There will always be a time that will come when the normal would be obsolete and more will be needed so that the head will be above water, and when that is not possible, it will be easy to be submerged in the harsh realities of life.

However, many people think stepping out of their comfort zones, means getting ready to do serious work. But many times, it’s not just that. There are people whose comfort zone is work itself. Serious work and they don’t know how to break away from it. As long as they are working and making money, then they are assured they are useful. So they put all their focus and energy into the work.

And what does that mean? In effect other areas of their lives will suffer. Their families, their social life, religion, and probably even their physical and mental health.

If you don’t understand what I’m saying, you can do a practical example of where you are. Try asking a workaholic out to just go and have fun, or to take a vacation and not do anything that has to do with work. Try it, and you’ll see the response you’ll get. They’ll come up with all sorts of reasons not to go, and if you do manage to convince them, there is no way they’ll leave their work behind. They’ll take it right with them, and that will kill the point of the vacation altogether.

There are those who because of how busy they are at work don’t have time for their children or partners. In the beginning, it is understandable. But when years have passed and it has become like a way of life, they even choose to stay away even when they don’t have to simply because they don’t know how to relate with their own children.

I have a friend whose father is like that. He is a retired soldier, and while he was serving he was always been transferred all over the country, so for most of her formative years, he was never around. It wasn’t until he retired and came home, and they started having other children that she started seeing him more often. And as it stands, the father is closer to her younger siblings. She doesn’t even know how to relate to him or hold an ordinary conversation just for the fun of it. He does everything a father should do, but that bond between father and daughter seems to be lacking. Even when they are living in the same house.

I might be wrong, but I see it as a form of the comfort zone. Getting to build a relationship with her father might be difficult, just as much as he was probably thinking that building one with his daughter would be difficult. So they are both taking the easier way and moving on, wasting precious time.

As I said, I may be totally wrong. But I’m only saying all this based on what my friend told me. No one can ever truly know the way the human mind really operates.

2dk2RRM2dZ8gKjXsrozapsD83FxL3Xbyyi5LFttAhrXxr16mCe4arfLHA37mQtCuynkak9C9VAxm3nacdB7gLmLiZLuYVhHeNsRgxL6WKJoam3hs2B7ZLAp2jwaLFEwoAbLKzAfpv2DhtyvHbJunTbU58RMbxtkvefNK4qj8EA.png

So, what am I saying in earnest? There are different types of comfort zones, there are the ones we might be in but we don’t even realize we are in them. We all have that one thing we want badly, but we can’t really get it because of one thing or the other that is within our power to do, but we just can’t find the drive to make it happen.

We are languishing in our comfort zones, and we need to get the hell out of there. There is no time again, in seconds anything can happen and your life can change in an instant. It would be best if there are no regrets.

So do that thing that is really bugging your mind and you really want to do, do it, and see yourself grow and flourish because you deserve it. And get out of your comfort zone!

The comfort zone is one of the most dangerous places a person can ever be, this is because it can be very deceiving.

This is one sad truth we hardly admit. Always been in that comfort zone of ours only restrict our achievements and things we all wish to get, but getting out of that comfort zone and wanting to do it, to get it we always come out strong no matter what happens along the line..
Quite an interesting post sir, an educative one in that matter that Ms for Sharing such beautiful knowledge piece with us sir.

When we find ourselves stuck in our comfort zone, we need to do what it takes to push ourselves out. That way we would be sure of our growth.

Comfort zone will make us feel relaxed and reluctant to do other things.
You are right some peoples work are the their comfort zone, because they are used to it.
Nice concept behind this post.

maybe it's more appropriate to call it a negligent zone, because it will make it difficult for humans to develop, hehe

This felt like a direct message to me. I was given a task by my coach to write on a topic. Though it's broad o have kept the writing for about two weeks with the excuse that I'm busy with Hive and teaching.

Meanwhile I don't teach everyday and I don't write on Hive everyday as well. I keep giving excuses that I'm into a lot of things but in reality even the things I used as an excuse doesn't take up to 50% of my time.

Truth is that deliberately or not, I like doing things at my own convenience and timing. This is my aspect of comfort zones. I have now decided to give myself a task and deadlines. This way I have no excuse but to do what I have to do. I'll listen to the advice here and try to do what I have to do rather than procrastinating and trying to do things only when it's convenient for me. Thank you for this.

Wow... I'm glad you were touched.
Giving yourself deadlines and working towards meeting them are really great strategies for growth. Because with deadlines, you have to push yourself so that you can get the job done.
