From A Hobby to A Job...

Hello everyone, how are you all doing today? We are in a fresh week and I hope we all are geared up to see how it goes and make the most of it.

A while ago, I made a post talking about the need for us to enjoy our jobs or whatever it was that was our primary source of living because that was the only way we would ever be truly productive in it. It is only when we are happy with what we are actually doing that we would give our best efforts and genuinely want to see it progress.

But then, what about those who are able to turn their hobbies into careers? They have the fortune of doing what they really love, something they had been doing for free previously, and are now getting paid serious money for it. They are probably the luckiest people in the world.

But then, turning your hobby into a career has its own perks as well. Let us cover some of them.

From A Hobby To A Job

The first thing this person has to understand is that they are no longer doing these things for themselves or their family, but for a much larger audience that is willing to pay for it. And if they are disappointed, will most likely cripple your business. So, therefore, everything the person does is based on the needs of the prospective consumers.

There will no longer be spontaneity because the wrong surprise could kill your image and hence cause you to lose customers.

When it is a mere hobby, the act will come first and how does it makes you feel. But once it becomes a job, the needs of the customer come first, then the act itself. Because the former will be needed to answer the latter. And after all, what comes next is how the person feels.

The Comfort Zone

For many people, this will be quite an issue. Because when they do their hobbies, they just want to have a good time. But when it becomes work, they will no doubt have to leave their comfort zone. In hobbies, they usually pause it when they get tired, but with a job, as long as you have deadlines to meet, you must stay awake and keep working at it until it is delivered.

Also, when you have gotten so used to running the business with your bare hands, everything has been done by you alone over the years. But now the time for growth has come, so you might have to buy more sophisticated equipment, and hire new employees that will begin to work round the clock for you. This will free you up to be the right manager of the establishment and manage it.

You as the one that likes the hobby might not want this form of growth because then it meant that they would not be able to do their hobbies as they like again. But then, it is just the price that is paid for the work.

Operating Costs

Previously, when you were spending next to nothing to carry out your hobbies, now that it is now a business you will spend more money on tushing up and making your product more beautiful. Actually, you will spend a lot of money. All these will be done bearing the fact that you are willing to seek profits.

This trend is something that is becoming popular, we see people go into good jobs just by virtue of their smartphone and internet connections. Things that were being done for fun are now being used to make money, and the transition is not quite easy for them because quite a number of things have to change.

I am one of them, and the best way I dealt with this situation was to acknowledge the fact that even though I knew a lot about this hobby of mine, I did not know anything about the business side of it. So I took it upon myself to learn and be the best I could possibly be.

And so far, it has been working for me.

So, my dear friends, I urge you all to always keep pushing no matter how tight things might get. Great things usually start like that and I can assure you are on your way to building something great.

This brings us to the end of today’s post, was this enlightening for you? Feel free to share your thoughts with me in the comments section.
