FungiFriday: Purple and Brown

Cheers to #FungiFriday, mushroom lovers!

I found some mushrooms today that I think are species of the genus Marasmius based on their phenotypic features. This was also my entry for the #FungiFriday hosted by @ewkaw.

The scientific name for this fungus is M. haematocephalus , commonly known as the mauve parachute or purple pinwheel. Most the genus Marasmius have parachute-like caps, but this one is purple and pink on the juvenile mushroom.

This seems to be the M. fulvoferrugineus species; whose common name is the brown parachute. The sole physical distinction between this fungus and M. haematocephalus is that it is larger in size and has a pale brown hue on the cap.

The first one looks like an umbrella that goes in a cocktail drink.
