Recycling an Old Closet

A friend had told me if I could help him improve the Electricity Input part of his house and if we could make a new pass box with an Old Wardrobe that he was about to throw away.

Well first we look at the wood and although it is not of very good quality it will serve for some good years to hold the meter and main switch in the house.

So with just a hacksaw blade and the help of my little electric cutter we got down to work and started building a new junction box for the meter and main switch.

Taking the exact measurements is not enough, you have to take into account that the woods are not equal in thickness and quality, so you have to make a good sketch of the box to be created so that there are no problems when embedding it in the wall.

The construction of the box with its doors was not such a complicated process, but not having a saw or a complete saw gave us a bit of work to cut each side of the box, but with patience and a firm hand we cut each side.

Then with the help of a short bit we made the guide holes for the passage of the wood screws, until we were shaping the box.

Finally, we also adjust the doors with the recycled hinges from the old closet and place them superficially and that they will be well supported on both sides, other of the screws we use some wood glue. We also put an aluminum grip to open both doors (also recycled from an old desk table).

Having the assembled box and with all the measures calculated, the old box was removed, with an approximate 40-year-old placed in that place, it is incredible what humidity and time can do.

Removing the old box, we also proceeded to identify each cable to be able to disconnect the meter and the main breaker and thus be able to reconnect it in its respective place after the box was embedded.

Putting the box, having passed all the cables and placed in their respective places, we can adjust with some screws, the back of the new box with the wooden part of the old box that served as the main support for this pass box.

We clean a little we fix the cables so that they are well aligned and the job is finished.

Observation: This work was always under the supervision of a professional in the field of electricity who is my person, you have to be very careful when working with electricity at home and have the appropriate safety implements and respect the safety regulations at the time of doing electrical work, do not try to do work at home without proper knowledge or the necessary tools, as it may represent a danger.

Once the work was finished, we once again prevented more solid waste from going to nature and gave a second use to the wood of an old closet and to something important such as the electricity input of a house.
