Expanding horizons: From great navigations to space travel.

15th century, cartographers, experienced navigators, scholars and the population in general, in a total euphoria, with the results obtained from the great navigations, financed in its great majority, by the kings, high clergy of the time, with the objective of discovering new lands, besides the known horizons, europe, africa and asia. It all started due to miscalculations and bad timing on your way to the spice route. The vessels took unknown routes and landed in "unknown" lands, which later were called "America". The events opened the eyes of those traveling sailors, who communicated the fact to the European rulers, these seeing with good eyes that news, decided to send expeditions to those lands, the rest of history we already know; in the desire to explore the lands, in order to suck the riches and satiate their curiosities, they used slave labor, from Africa and the indigenous peoples who inhabited the regions, in order to extract the riches of the new continent.

While the second millennium was marked by sea voyages, exploration of new lands discovered by navigators and lacking in advanced technological resources; the third millennium is being marked by the search for new orbital horizons, also called "planets". The long space travels that started to come out of the paper in the period of the cold war, fought between the USA and the Russians, in the second half of the 20th century, firstly, it was successful when the man reached the lunar soil, after the episode, countless space expeditions were launched over the following years, including space probes, with the aim of researching other atmospheres. If before the great navigations were a reason for euphoria and mysteries involving the seas and the new discoveries of lands and local inhabitants with totally different customs, today the reason is something much bigger and more complex than one imagines, the search for lives beyond the land , and who knows by planets with an atmosphere similar to ours, which may be our home in the near future.

It's a beautiful European summer day, cartographers, navigators and influential people of the time, they sit around a table, the wood gives off a strong smell of cedar, one of the cartographers dips a pen into a pot containing thick paint and begins to draw a sketch on a cartographic map, indicating several alternative routes if plan "A" did not work out. Using a map that even covered the entire table, a pen with an inkwell and a compass, with the support of experienced sailors, they get together and walk towards one of the caravels moored in the city's port, before leaving , the captain checks whether there are enough supplies to feed the crew during long journeys, not to mention numerous barrels containing water/drinks. So we can describe the routine of navigators (merchants) of the time.

Meanwhile, in the 21st century, groups of scientists, programmers and engineers gather in a sizable space, with an individual computer at each table at their disposal. One of the programmers programs the route the rocket will take, the initial tests are started, everything is powered by the computer. The rocket makes its programmed route and returns to the same place, without much effort, as everything is following a route traced by the electronic system. When necessary, a spacecraft is attached to the rocket, which takes astronauts to the space station or space travel. The fuel autonomy, time and speed are computerized in the system, the spacecraft, rocket obeys programmed commands, thus allowing not to leave the destination that was initially traced.

A little more than 500 years later, technology has taken a giant leap, man has also sought to achieve other goals, which before they were looking for new lands, now they are looking for new planets. If, before, navigating through unknown waters was an obstacle, today traveling to space is still complex and requires deeper studies, after all, living inside a capsule must be distressing and tedious. If technology was absent before, today we could say that we are swimming on them (lol), kidding aside, there is a lot to evolve, the speed reached by spacecraft is ineffective in terms of space/time. The technology we have, even though it is at an average level, is inefficient to inhabit other stars, not to mention that taking human lives to these distant planets would be an impossible mission, because it would take thousands of years to reach its final destination and human life is limited to a measly 100 years.

Days ago, billionaires funded their own space projects, and were able to experience the unique feeling of observing the Earth from space for literally a few minutes. But the point is: traveling aboard spaceships in a short period of time and a short distance is limited and hassle-free, as money is not the issue for them (lol). Now, is it possible to get out of this bubble and visit other planets in person without suffering damage to human nature? I think we should ask the E.T. for help, maybe they would lend us a spaceship for us to test drive to a nearby planet with similarities to our terrestrial atmosphere (lol).
