What happened to the DART mission?

This is a series of images of Dimorphs taken from September 27 to November 20, Dimorphos is the small asteroid of 160 meters in diameter that orbits a larger one called Didymos of about 800 meters in diameter and that was impacted by the spacecraft. give from NASA in order to shorten the orbit of this asteroid.

NASA technicians wanted to shorten it by 10 minutes, but the impact at about 22,530 kilometers per hour was a complete success, in fact, its orbit was not shortened by 10 minutes and not by 32 minutes much more than expected, another thing that It was not that he did not know calculated was the enormous amount of material that he ejected, a tail of about 10,000 kilometers long was created.

The tail is practically dust or specks of dust and perhaps some slightly larger fragments, but basically the density is like that of smoke, that's why it was that enormous size and lasted until the 8th, as you can see in the images until October 16 , but later it began to dilute and on November 20, it was already very, very diffuse.

A European space agency mission called HERA is scheduled to arrive in a few years to see what happened to Didymos and Dimorphos, scientists and astronomers detected something strange shortly after the impact and that is that Didymos increased its brightness, it is believed that a large amount of debris ejected from the impacted Dimorphos asteroid hit Didymos and caused that increase in brightness that astronomers saw.

From now on, and once these data are taken, NASA will want to develop technologies and models that describe the best way to divert a space object, other nations will follow suit, such as the European and Chinese space agencies, the latter does not want to be left behind. and prepares a mission to deflect a much smaller asteroid.

The nations that want to be space powers will have to have this technology to be able to save the Earth from the impact of an asteroid in case of risk it is possible that we will be lucky and that in the next century there will be no asteroid that comes on a collision course with the earth , but it is important to have that technology our hand is one more step like ours in our evolution as a technological species.
