The future of the space station..

The international space station is becoming outdated, it is something that has already been said in previous publications, and there are also tensions between Russia and the United States.

The fundamental problem right now is that you have to decide what to do with the international space station, with a complicated outlook last year 2022, NASA administrator Bill Nelson announced his willingness to work with Russia and other countries to expand the operations of the international space station for another decade at least until 2030 in addition to Russia, we must remember that there are other partners in the international space station are the space agencies of Europe, Japan and Canada.

This statement is curious because it comes a month after NASA published its plans to replace the international space station with what they called commercial space destinations, which would be to create other space stations with various purposes, scientific, commercial or even for space tourism .

I am still not clear about the future of the international space station, I suspect that in the end it will remain for the most practical and the most useful, I think the most practical and the most useful thing would be to continue with it, continue and do what It is necessary for it to continue operating, and of course for international cooperation to continue, since I believe that international cooperation is essential for space exploration, but I have already said that the tensions between Russia and the United States are very great.

I hope that you get an agreement and that the agencies in Europe, Japan, Canada, USA and Russia will join forces again so that the international space station regenerates and continues for many more years.

So, do you think the ISS will stay in space indefinitely or be deorbited?

The cost of getting things into space is so high that I always imagined that they would just gradually add more and more stuff to the space station with older sections being used for storage. Other articles point to the high cost of maintenance and think that older stations should follow Mir and be dropped into the earth's atmosphere. Such as this article:

It is very interesting how NASA is awarding contracts to manage the services needed in the ISS a private company called Axiom:

The stuff that people put in space should be seen as assets with corresponding liabilities. So, I see nothing wrong with involving the private sector as the private sector often does a better job of maximizing the return from assets while reducing associated risks and liabilities.

NOTE: The private sector fails when that system allows private companies to externalize their costs and shunt off their liabilities onto the public.

Liability in space is a very particular case, Space is under international law and the Outer Space Treaty, signed in 1967 and followed by a liability convention in 1971.

It is state there that the launching state is liable for any damage caused by a space object.
