Journey to Mars in 45 days

Souce

NASA plans to send a manned mission to Mars in the mid-2030s, it would be a trip that with current technology would last about 500 days and this involves a lot of problems and expenses, on the one hand we have to equip the ship with all the food and resources for the astronauts to survive those 500 days.

And on the other hand, there are the complications for the health of these astronauts that a prolonged stay in space would entail, from the outset we must forget about seeing something similar on Mars to what was seen in the Apollo missions to the moon, we will not see the ship land and Shortly after leaving an astronaut to step on Martian soil for the first time, we will not see it because after months of weightlessness they will not be able to stand up and walk for hours or perhaps days.

These problems would at least be reduced if new engines were designed to propel the ships faster, thus reducing the duration of the trip and also the needs for food, resources and saving health problems, scientists from McGill University in Montreal Canada, who have published a study of a thermal laser propulsion system that would make it possible to reach Mars in just 45 days.

This new system would work by means of large lasers fired from the ground that would power a hydrogen heating chamber in the spacecraft, after leaving the earth the spacecraft would accelerate rapidly, traveling the distance that separates us from Mars in just one month. , when it reached Martian orbit, the lander would separate and leave the astronauts on the surface of the red planet.

The plan is exposed but developing the technology to carry it out is much more complicated, according to the researchers the most difficult thing will be to create the laser fuel heating chamber, since temperatures must exceed 9726 degrees Celsius and therefore it is necessary to look for some way to keep the walls of the chamber cold so they don't melt.

There are also no lasers like those required for this operation, which should reach 100 megawatts. In short, the technology does not yet exist, but for now it is an idea that has caught the interest of NASA.

There you are! I was excited about your title. Then for some reason my browser refreshed and I couldn't find it. Thanks for sharing the link too so I can learn more. I wonder if Gforces will limit how fast the ship can travel or if it won't be something of importance to worry about.

Good question, I think there will be no problems, they will seek a balance between those forces and the speed with which they travel!
