Sodium is an alkali metal. When an alkali metal reacts with water, it forms a bond with the OH of water (H2O), which separates the hydrogen from the water and causes the hydrogen to explode.
2Na + 2H2O ----> 2NaOH + H2

The reaction of sodium and water is an exothermic reaction in which heat is generated, and the same heat causes hydrogen to burn due to the oxygen in the air.

We used sodium extract solution for compound detection in organic chemistry experiments, in which sodium was heated and added to water. Jati ...

In addition to sodium, there are other alkali metals including lithium, potassium, rubidium, cesium, francium. These alkali metals are in group 1A of the periodic table

Wow! This reminds me.of chemistry class back then in high school. Thanks for bringing back the science memories.
